Weekend of competitions and meetings for Underwater Swimming in Faenza

The participation of 25 male and female athletes from the Seniores, Cadets, Juniores and Boys categories coached by Marco Fregnani and Fabrizio Zani at the 8th Cool Swim Meeting at the Lido of Merano was a high-level experience. Last Sunday, a representative of the national swimming team was in the South Tyrolean town: among others there were Thomas Ceccon, Leonardo Deplano, Lisa Angiolini, Lorenzo Mora, as well as youth representatives from Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Lombardy and Veneto who raised the level of the event significantly.

Alex Gaddoni did not miss the opportunity to shine by placing second in the 100 meter butterfly, third in the 400 medley and fourth in the 200 butterfly. Other placings close to the podium were obtained in the women’s field by Andrea Maltoni in the 50 and 100 backstroke and by Giada Minelli in the 200 butterfly and 1500 freestyle. It should be remembered that Gaddoni achieved qualification for the Italian Summer Category Championships a few weeks ago, scheduled in Rome from 5 to 12 August, in the 200m freestyle, 100m and 200m butterfly and in the 200m medley; together with him there will be Andrea Maltoni competing in the 50 backstroke.

Trip outside the region from Friday 14th to Sunday 16th June also for the Esordienti B and Esordienti A, coached respectively by Marco Mastrapasqua and Nicolò Nonni, involved in the 27th National Meeting “Tifernum Tiberinum” in Città di Castello.

Among the youngest B Debutants, Emma Alpi showed off first in the 50 backstroke and 50 butterfly and Elena Coveri won in the 50 breaststroke and third in the 100 freestyle.

Among the A Beginners, Alberto Fabbri did not miss the appointment and won in the 200 medley and 50 butterfly, came second in the 400 medley and 100 freestyle and won the bronze medals in the 100 butterfly, 50 freestyle and in the 200 freestyle. In the women’s field, Linda Martelli beat her competition in the 200m breaststroke, came second in the 100m breaststroke and took the bronze medal in the 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle and 200m medley. Two bronze medals went to Chiara Tamburini for third places in the 50m and 200m backstroke, and one also went to Marta Zini in the 100m breaststroke.

The 4 by 50 freestyle relay team formed by Linda Martelli, Matilde Zama, Chiara Tamburini, Alice Bandini obtained the silver medal.

For coach Giorgia Silimbani’s very young Debut C swimmers, the Umbrian trip to the swimming pools of the “Libero Liberati” Stadium in Terni for the Libertas National Youth Championships was the last official match of the season. Adelaide Ragazzini (born 2016) placed second in the 25 breaststroke, while Leone Villa (2016) won bronze medals in the 25 backstroke and 25 breaststroke. All the Nuoto Sub Faenza standard bearers participated in the finals and improved their times, in particular Simone Lippi (2015) who came fourth in the 25 breaststroke, as did the 4 by 25 mixed relay, made up of Bruna Bucci, Matilde Vassura, Cesare Nati, Elia Nonni, and the 4 for 25 freestyle relay team which placed fourth with the “2016” Marco Pini, Leone Villa, Bruna Bucci and Matilde Vassura.

In the youth water polo sector from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd June the Under 13 team, strengthened with some slightly older players, will be involved in the Uisp national championships in Certaldo, while the Under 16 team mixed with elements of the Ravenna Water Polo team faced the equal age of the Sterling on the evening of Monday 17th away to Bologna as part of a post-championship tournament organized by the regional Nuoto Federation which will end at the end of June.
