Reggio Emilia The courier carrying a heavy package. A second man, who says he was a tenant of the building, offers to transport it to the floor where the owner lives because the package is too heavy. Finally, a third man who wears gloves and says he is a policeman, in certain parts of the conversation perhaps even a policeman.
These are the ingredients of the scam against the former parliamentarian Eletta Bertani, resident on the street Martyrs of Bettola, and a neighbor who lives in the same condominium, on Thursday. These are episodes which, in addition to the economic damage, cause great frustration in the victims, who are directly affected by the good faith shown to unscrupulous individuals.
«On Wednesday I was returning from home Ione Bartoli (also a prominent political exponent, ed.) – explains Eletta Bertani –. I had been notified by the courier who was delivering the booked wine to my home. I saw the pickup truck go around the curve of the house path and, while I was parking, I noticed a person stopping. While I informed the courier that I would go to get the money, the other gentleman entered the entrance of the condominium. We approached the elevator: the package was very heavy, I took four or five packages collected in a single package. So, that man offered to help me carry it to the floor where I live.”
In the meantime, the man starts a conversation with Eletta: he asks her if the 110 bonus was used in the building and declared that he was a former tenant who lived in the apartment downstairs, also telling her his surname.
«He kept it for a long time, then they rang the doorbell and another man showed up, between 35 and 40 years old. He wasn’t in uniform, but he was wearing gloves. He told me that they were notifying the tenants of the building so that the families could check if anything was missing, given that there had been some thefts. He added that we shouldn’t have been alarmed because the police caught the thieves, but if we had had intrusions into the house we should have checked whether the stolen goods had disappeared.”
Eletta went to check her room and remembers seeing «all the bags open on the bed. Furthermore, inside a metal box I kept objects with great sentimental value: for example, there was a gold necklace that the employees gave me when he left the department. Furthermore, a ring that I had given to my mother, who passed away a few months ago, which I cared about a lot, as well as a brooch and another ring, disappeared from another container.”
The fake policeman and his accomplice then reached another lady who lives on the ninth floor of the same building. When the old woman expressed doubts in front of the fake policeman, he replied piquedly. He told her not to offend him, because she was doing her job. «Then he received a phone call, he went out to answer it and disappeared into thin air», Eletta reconstructs.
Yesterday the Honorable Member phoned the condominium administrator, who displayed a sign at the entrance raising the alarm about the presence of criminals who introduce themselves as “police, carabinieri, gas workers or Enel” to put sign of thefts in apartments. The police have arrived on site and a complaint will be filed. Eletta Bertani, in the meantime, urges «to pay attention. I don’t want to change my attitude of trust in others, but I recommend my fellow citizens, especially the elderly, to make sure who they are dealing with if they don’t know him.”
