Monza: a dictionary for the cathedral

From Filippo Abbiati to Beltramino de Zuttis. It’s all there the history of the Monza cathedral enclosed in the two definitions that open and close “The words of the cathedral. Dictionary”. A monumental work that tells the story of the basilica and its historical, artistic and architectural events through thousands of entries. From the painter Abbiati to the goldsmith de Zuttis, in fact, along a journey made of 240 entries and 380 images.

The volume, published at the behest of Gaiani Foundationwill be presented next June 22ndduring a conference promoted on the initiative of the health, environment and artistic heritage commission of the Order of Surgeons and Dentists of the Province of Monza and Brianza. The appointment is in the granary room (in the courtyard next to the cathedral) starting at 8.45am.

Monza: the authors of the cathedral dictionary

A fundamental volume that traces the history of the cathedral from the 6th century to the contemporary age born from the collaboration between Renato Mambrettiof the Catholic University of Milan, Giustino Pasciutiformer director of the civic library of Monza e Roberto Cassanelli, professor at the specialization school in historical-artistic heritage of the Catholic University of Milan, all three scientific directors and editorial editors of the dictionary. The three curators will be present during the meeting on Saturday 22 June.

Monza and “The words of the cathedral”: the contents of the dictionary

Two hundred and forty entries, it has been said, relating to the history of institutions and gods personagesat the liturgy and to the history of Arts which numerous authors have collected based on updated scientific research and a precise reference bibliography. Particular care was reserved for the iconographic equipment which made use of the collaboration of Gaiani Foundation and of Monza civic library.

Not a real presentation of the text which has been available to the public since 2020, but a tribute to an important and fundamental work for knowing and admiring the basilica and its history.
