BBC Grosseto wins game 10-4 and the three extra hits scored by San Marino are of no avail. The home line-up hits at the right time and closes the score by definitively extending to the 6th thanks to Garcia’s grand slam. Winning pitcher Gomez, loser Pedrol. Salvation for Peñalver.
THE NEWS. It’s an ups and downs right from the start, this race 1. San Marino starts with the right approach and moves on to the first attack. Tromp is on base on balls, then there’s Diaz who hits a fielded choice, steals second, is on third on an error and scores the 1-0 on a wild pitch. In the same inning, the attack also places two men in point position (base to Alvarez and double from Angulo), but the third out arrives and the score remains the same as before.
In the 2nd minute San Marino starts with two hits but without scoring and in the lower part the BBC catches up and overtakes. With Garcia on base and two outs, Chelli earns a crucial base ball and above all Vaglio goes with the two-run triple (2-1), before scoring firsthand on a wild pitch by Pedrol (3-1).
The local advantage does not last long, because at the change of sides Celli hits a double and Alvarez follows him with a long home run to the center which makes it 3-3. The match is put back into balance, but in the bottom of the 3rd the BBC gets back ahead with the Barcelan (single) – Martini (double) combination for the 4-3.
In the 4th we don’t exploit Lopez at third with an out, while in the 5th the BBC brings Pedrol down after Herrera’s double and the base to Barcelan. Baez enters, but hits Martini and grants the automatic point to Garcia (5-3) before closing.
At the 6th the new hookup attempt is real. With one out, Lorenzo Di Raffaele hits a nice double, Tromp hits a single on the newly entered Peñalver and Diaz goes with the valid 4-5. With two on base and one out, however, no further points arrive.
Grosseto takes advantage of this and completely closes the score in the bottom of the 6th. First extending to 6-4 with Barcelan’s double from a point, then definitively escaping with Garcia’s home run, a grand slam that means 10-4.
