At Misano Maria Herrera took pole position in the WorldWCR, an absolute novelty for 2024, ahead of her compatriots Sanchez and Carrasco. Ponziani fourth. Race 1 starts tomorrow at 11.50am

Una Maria Herrera in great form took first place in the WorldWCR Superpole round, or rather the new women’s world championship that began this morning under the Misano sun. The Spaniard from the Forward team managed to establish herself with a time of 1’49.390, lowering her time by almost seven tenths compared to this morning’s free practice. Sara Sanchez and Ana Carrasco were very close, within 124 thousandthscompleting an all-Iberian front row. Fourth Roberta Ponziani.
Herrera’s is a precious pole position, given that he did not take part in the Cremona tests last May and in fact only tested the bike for the first time today. Consequently, the second place obtained in the morning session was a first good sign confirmed by the fastest lap, achieved despite the high temperature and a very aggressive Sara Sanchez only 51 thousandths of a second away in Superpole.
Ana Carrasco, already WorldSSP300 champion in 2018, was also incisive. Starting in the top three was her target and thanks to the support and harmony that was created with the Evan Bros. team she was able to take third place.
Tomorrow’s race, as the first and third placed teams agree, will presumably be a group race, given that all the bikes on the grid are identical on a technical level. We’ll see what happens. What matters is that today a historic step was taken for women’s motorcycling on a global level.
