“Falcomatà resigns: we will not have an open session on Ponte Stretto”

REGGIO CALABRIA – “Regarding the extraordinary session of the open municipal council called by the Administration of Reggio Calabria, with the only item on the agenda being the Bridge over the Strait, scheduled for today, 14 June, at Palazzo San Giorgio, the council group of Forza Italia formally communicates that it will not take part in the session, deserting the meeting.” This was stated in a statement by the Reggio Calabria municipal councilors of Forza Italia, Federico Milia, Antonino Maiolino and Roberto Vizzari.

“Starting from the assumption that Forza Italia has been, is and will be the political soul most linked to guaranteeism, of which it has always been the standard-bearer – they add – we do not consider it appropriate to participate in yet another parade of hypocrisy, while something much more important is happening in the city. With this we do not intend to judge anyone and, far from holding trials prematurely, we rely on the investigators to shed light on the episodes contested in various ways. At the same time, however, the gravity of the certainly not first judicial episode that has affected the Falcomatà Administration and neighboring subjects in all these years, in our view, takes away meaning and priority from any other topic. It is meaningless to talk about Ponte in such a delicate moment for our reality. The ongoing investigations against some members of the party that has governed Reggio for years, as well as the mayor, cannot leave us indifferent, and should not leave the other members of the city council indifferent either. For these reasons, Forza Italia decided a priori not to present itself at the council meeting, above all as a sign of respect towards the citizens of Reggio”.

“Once again – say the Reggio municipal councilors of Forza Italia – we see the name of our splendid city leaping to the headlines in the national news for judicial news issues, despite the enormous efforts made by the Region and the Deputation to take Reggio out of the tunnel. With the spotlight of the parliamentary bodies of inquiry focused on this latest episode, and therefore with the risk of a possible administration of the Municipality, our appeal to the Mayor is to listen to common sense and take a step back, resigning before the City falls back into a drama it has already experienced. Resigning on his part would be a great act of responsibility for Reggio and for the people of Reggio, who would not forgive him for having brought about the final ax for this city”.
