He killed his wife and then showed up at the police station with the body in the van. He declared to the military that he had killed her. It happened on Monday evening in Modena. The victim, Anna Sviridenko, was 40 years old and the mother of two children. Her husband, Andrea Paltrinieri, a 48-year-old Italian, was arrested for aggravated murder. He is now in prison awaiting his validation hearing.
The body of the woman – Italian of Russian origins – was found curled up in the trunk. The victim would have been strangled with a belt that she still had around her neck, her head was covered with a plastic bag, tied with an electric wire. According to what was declared by the Modena carabinieri, the soldiers, once they opened the trunk, found the victim with her head entirely covered by a black plastic bag, tightened around her neck with a plastic-coated electrical wire. Once the bag was removed, the police were able to see that the woman had a belt around her neck. However, the autopsy will ascertain the causes of her death. From the statements made by the 48-year-old it emerged that the couple was arguing over custody of their children.
The victim, a doctor in Austria at the Innsbruck university clinic and specializing in Radiology at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, had started a procedure before the Innsbruck judicial authority to obtain sole custody. The woman had also worked for the ASL in Alto Adige, ed she was registered with the Bolzano Medical Association.
In May 2023 – the investigators explain – it was decided that the minors should live mainly with their mother, establishing the father’s right of visitation. In January 2024, the 48-year-old appealed to the civil court of Modena for judicial separation, with charges against the woman, contesting the Austrian jurisdiction. The Modena court – explains the Prosecutor’s Office – had reserved the right to decide on territorial jurisdiction in May 2024. Last February, the woman presented another request to the Innsbruck court to obtain sole custody of the two minors. The investigations will continue in the next few days. The investigations will have to ascertain whether or not there was premeditation.
What is certain, in the meantime, is that the trail of blood involving women does not stop. 34 have been killed since the beginning of 2024 in Italy: the first was Rosa D’Ascenzo, killed on New Year’s Eve, the last the 40-year-old from Modena.
According to data from the Department of Public Security – Central Directorate of the Criminal Police on voluntary homicides and gender violence, relating to the period 1 January – 26 May 2024, 104 homicides were recorded, with 34 female victims, of which 30 were killed within the family. /affective; of these, 18 died at the hands of their partner or ex-partner. To these is added yesterday’s victim. A real emergency that unfortunately shows no sign of ending.
