Emotion and satisfaction in the democratic house in the aftermath of the results of the vote on Saturday and Sunday. “There is great satisfaction – says the regional secretary of the Democratic Party Emiliano Fossi – because we are clearly, and by great distance, the first party in Tuscany. It wasn’t obvious or automatic. It is the fruit of a great year and a half of work. These are our first elections managed by this leadership group elected last February. The strengths are that there has never been a united party like this in Tuscany, combined with a clear political line that we have built over time”.

Secretary Fossi comments on the results of the European and administrative elections in the region, together with the head of local authorities of the Tuscan party Stefano Bruzzesi: “All this leads us to the great result of being the first party in Tuscany, a result that rewards generosity and an inclusive spirit in coalition building, overcoming self-sufficiency and with the awareness that in politics you need votes and not vetoes. We also apply this awareness to the steps that await us in the next 15 days. With our work we help the Democratic Party’s results throughout Italy.”

In Tuscany, out of 185 municipalities, 132 votes go to a mayor of the Democratic Party

In Tuscany, it was recalled, out of 185 Municipalities (out of 273) voting, 132 go to a mayor supported by the Democratic Party, 35 to mayors of the centre-right or in any case not supported by the Dems, while there are 18 run-off elections. In the European elections, Fossi underlined , “I expected a good national result but not 24%. We are happy to do so well. In the administrative elections the results are positive but not obvious. The Democratic Party came from a phase of great difficulty which led us to see all contexts as contestable, even where we governed well. The achievements we have achieved are not due to a historical legacy but thanks to daily work.”

“Elly Schlein wanted strong and competitive lists”

“Schlein wanted strong and competitive lists – he added -, to stay on the issues and give a left-wing response to the anxieties and hopes of the territories. This is great news but it is also very tiring. Schlein campaigned real, far and wide, among the people. This is how we designate the profile of the new party that is in contexts among people, not doing catwalks.”

For Bruzzesi “we had a fairly difficult electoral campaign because of containment, in three regional capitals, Florence, Prato and Livorno, which are considered by the right to be our electoral granary and which the right needs to conquer. We started the electoral campaign at least a year before, while the right ran a very short and rapid electoral campaign. We needed to find the solution for Prato, where we had a very strong mayor in his last term, and in Livorno there was a battle for the city. Surprisingly, we have already managed to find success in the first round. Let’s not forget that Prato and Livorno with Florence are home to almost 2/3 of the inhabitants of Tuscany. In the region we won in 3/4 of the Municipalities in the vote.

“In Florence there is a challenge between us and the “Martian” of the right”

For the ballot in Florence “we will talk to the citizens, the challenge is between us and the right with Schmidt who is a Martian catapulted from Rome. We are launching an appeal to the democrats and democrats of the city and for the runoffs we will call together and we will appeal to a general mobilization of the Tuscan party, which is a large community, so that they flock to the cities to vote. We will win the match, starting from Florence, but we must not relax” explains Fossi again.

“If Iv and Del Re are centre-left, they should support Funaro”

“The result is very important and for this reason we make an appeal to democratic Florence, to the people and to all those who recognize themselves in a centre-left horizon. If a force and people and exponents of parties who recognize themselves as centre-left really feel like such, they have only one choice: to support Sara Funaro with strength and conviction. We expect this.” Thus Emiliano Fossi, secretary of the Tuscany Democratic Party, responding to those who asked him if in Florence it was possible to dialogue with Italia Viva and Cecilia Del Re in view of the ballot, which among other things is held on the weekend of San Giovanni, between the center-left candidate Sara Funaro, who obtained 43.17% of the votes, and Eike Schmidt, center-right candidate, who obtained 32.86%.
