Farewell to Farias, journalist and historical face of the regional news – Abruzzo

PESCARA. Goodbye to Franco Farias, Rai journalist, historic face of the Abruzzo news. He was 72 years old, originally from Loreto Aprutino and lived in Francavilla. He dedicated his life to journalism and culture. Farias, in addition to having held the position of secretary of the Abruzzo Press Association, was a councilor of the professional association. At Rai he had held the position of head of service, dealing with all sectors of news, but in particular culture. Ten years ago the Municipality of Pescara awarded him the “Ciatte d’Oro” Award, which the City assigns to personalities who have brought prestige to the community.

The funeral chapel will be set up from tomorrow, from 9am, in the chapel of the Francavilla al Mare cemetery. The funeral takes place on Tuesday

“On that occasion”, recalls the president of the Order, Stefano Pallotta“Farias had retraced some stages of his brilliant history as a reporter, concluding his speech with a quote from his fellow citizen Ennio Flaiano which sounds much like an act of love towards what was his profession: “They asked Flaiano what thought of journalists and he replied that they are a handful of eternally undecided men”. And still quoting Flaiano, Farias had made a heartfelt appeal to the institutions for a commitment to support the information sector which was experiencing (and still experiencing) one of the most difficulties of its history “We are going back 50 years”, he concluded.

“The best way to remember Franco – adds Pallotta – is that of a strong commitment by all Abruzzo journalists for a regional law on publishing in support of information bodies to avoid the desertification of democratic voices in Abruzzo. Next June 29th Pescara, its city, the general states of information are called to formulate concrete proposals for Abruzzo journalism and we can do so in the name of Franco Farias. Condolences to his wife, son and daughter Alessandra, our journalist colleague”.

The Abruzzo Journalists Union expresses its condolences for the death of Franco Farias, doyen of Abruzzo journalism. “Franco Farias was above all a leading exponent of Abruzzo culture, also as an essayist, historian, literary critic, musical expert”, states the Sga secretary, Ezio Cerasi“worth remembering is his book on the history of the Abruzzo gangs, co-written with Francesco Sanvitale. Always close to the Flaiano International Awards, he supported their activity over the years. In Rai he had entered the program structure of the Abruzzo headquarters , then moving on to the journalistic editorial team of Tgr, until he held the position of news chief, always particularly attentive to cultural issues. Among his most significant journalistic contributions was the long video interview with Domenico Troilo on the history of the Maiella Brigade children Edmondo and Alessandra, journalist, receive the affectionate embrace of the Abruzzo Journalists Union”.

Also International Awards Flaiano and the Tiboni Foundation They learn with deep sadness the news of the death of Franco Farias, collaborator of the Awards. “His books “Italian culture in the world and the Flaiano Awards””, they remind the Awards, “a painstaking work in which Farias was able to intertwine the cultural path of Italy with Pescara which was experiencing the cultural event created by Edoardo Tiboni, who was also his director and friend. Franco Farias, the then young journalist of the Rai team, leaves a very precious legacy in journalism, telling the story of his land that he loved so much “materially poor but rich in imagination”.

“A giant of Abruzzo journalism, a man of culture, a great professional and a sensitive trade unionist passed away this afternoon”: thus Donato Fioriti (former deputy secretary of Assostampa Abruzzo) e Candida De Novellis (former Abruzzo Assostampa manager). “We had the honor and pleasure, in different roles, of collaborating on the union’s board of directors with him as secretary – highlight Fioriti and De Novellis -, in a very difficult period for the category. His humanity was known to all, like his proverbial irony and ability to narrate with learned anecdotes and insightful advice to young people approaching the category. To our dear daughter Alessandra and to her family, our sympathy and that of the Figec/Cisal press and communication union, at a territorial and national level”.
