At almost 90 years of age, Filiberto Bonduà conquered the Italian record with the M320 four by 100 mixed relay at the Garden sports center in Rimini. They did it during the 37th international master meeting “Italo Galluzzi”, the swimmers from Polisport, at the municipal swimming pool of Città di Castello. According to what was announced by the Umbrian Municipality, the organizers are now verifying through the competition judges and the Federation Italian swimming if it can also be a European or world record. Over 500 people registered for the races, from all over central Italy representing 70 clubs. The record relay was made up of Ermete Caleri, 67 years old, originally from Rimini, the first competitor on backstroke, Pierfranco Agrestini, 84, from Bologna, breaststroke, and from Rimini Giuseppe Fantini, 85, dolphin, and Filiberto Bonduà, almost 90 years old, freestyle and last competitor. The athletes from Romagna are not new to such feats of national caliber or beyond but they had never attempted the relay with one hundred meter sections. The Municipality underlines that at the end of the races and the party complete with “third time” based on porchetta they took the car back, driving both the outward and return journeys. “captain” of the Bonduà company to return to their Rimini. “We have children there but above all grandchildren and in the evening we like to be with them”, they underlined at the end of the undertaking (not at all tired) which they decided to dedicate in particular to young people “in the hope of transmitting to them the true values ​​of sport, swimming in particular”. Bonduà, a train engineer in the past and a great sports enthusiast, and Giuseppe Fantini, an air traffic controller – it is said again in the note – became friends, first practicing tennis and then swimming. For them the secret to success is “a lot of passion, daily training, healthy eating and a smile on their faces”. “Sport – they underline – is first and foremost about sharing common values ​​of solidarity and a spirit of sacrifice and age doesn’t matter as long as you have the strength to carry on and the desire to get into the water, nothing is precluded”.
