The Magna Graecia Train has finally left! It will connect Basilicata, Puglia and Calabria. The details

It left this morning Magna Graecia train that connects Puglia to Calabria, passing through Basilicata.

The train stopped at the intermediate stations of Metaponto, Scanzano Jonico, Policoro and Nova Siri as provided for in the agreement between the Infrastructure department of the Basilicata Region and Trenitalia. The service is active on summer weekends until September 29th.

Commented on President of the Basilicata Region Vito Bardi:

“This is a new service that will allow the tourist flow of the Ionian area to be strengthened, pursuing the aim of enhancing the tourist offer of the area.

The agreement that we signed in recent months with Trenitalia, together with the Infrastructure Councilor Dina Sileo, underlines the commitment of this regional government towards the development of our region which cannot fail to involve the strengthening of road connections.”

Branch councilor Dina Sileo declared:

“The train becomes not only a means of transport but of ideas and cultures.

The Magna Grecia Train represents a real journey between the historical roots of our land and the innovative possibilities of tomorrow.

An experimental route, entirely financed by the Basilicata Region for 280,000 euros plus VAT, for which passengers will be able to enjoy a brand new Pop train.

The goal is to make it a definitive service that will allow our region to interconnect with nearby Puglia and Calabria. In this sense, the numbers communicated by Trenitalia regarding the passengers on the train departing from Metaponto at 09:39, or 55, suggest a positive response from users”.

In a note the regional councilors, Pasquale Pepe and Domenico Tataranno they add:

“We express profound satisfaction for the launch of the Magna Graecia Train, a project of strategic importance for our region.

Sincere thanks to the Regional Councilor for Transport, Dina Sileo, for the hard work and dedication shown in completing this project.

His tireless work and the fruitful dialogue established with Trenitalia made it possible to achieve such a significant result.

We are convinced that this project will bring benefits in terms of mobility and tourism. Therefore, the new regional government will have to continue on the path traced and make this service, currently experimental, available all year round”.

The Councilor for the Environment, Energy and Territory of the Basilicata Region informs us, Cosimo Latronico:

“Yet another commitment kept.

This morning the Magna Grecia railway which connects Taranto and Sibari restarted and stops in almost all the stations of Metaponto, Scanzano Jonico, Policoro and Nova Siri.

We announced it in recent weeks and today the service, although experimental and seasonal, is a reality.

The objective, thanks to the collaboration of Trenitalia, is to ensure that it becomes permanent so as to make the railway network of the Ionian coast a mode of transport with connections with tourist facilities, with archaeological areas and museums, and over time with transport hubs of Taranto and Bari, including the airport”.
