“Imaginary Mediterranean”, the fifth edition of the Sardinia Archeo Festival begins

The Sardinia Archeo Festival, Imagined Mediterraneanis scheduled on 8, 9, 15 June and 30 August 2024 respectively to Cagliari, Il Ghetto art and culture centre (via Santa Croce 18), Stintino, at the Tonnara Museum, and in Villagrande Strisaili at the S’Arcu is Forros archaeological site.

Now in its fifth edition, the informative festival of archeology dedicated to the Mediterranean is created with the contribution of Foundation of Sardinia And the patronage of the Municipality of Cagliari. Among the guests were the archaeologists Elisabetta Garau, Flavia Frisone, Francesco Bellu, Massimo Cultraro, Valentina Porcheddu, Valentino Nizzo and Marco Minoja, the philosopher Silvano Tagliagambe, the glottologist Riccardo Ginevra, the journalist Luca Misculin and the writer Ilaria Guidantoni, the naturalist Gianni Palumbo, the historians Santiago Sabariego Sanchez and Giampaolo Salice, the teacher of Church History Anna Carfora.

What is the border between reality and myth in our Mediterranean? Which stories and narratives, more or less true, have come down to us from the past so as to mark our present? Which heroes, idols, deities have influenced our events in this corner of the world? These are the questions surrounding the Sardinia Archeo Festivalan archeology (and not only) information event conceived and organized by the association Itzokor.

The Festival is in Cagliari, in the spaces of the Ghetto in via Santa Croce, between Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 June with a reflection on the Imagined Mediterranean.

“For centuries, thinkers, philosophers, travelers and explorers, poets, writers, navigators and sailors have tried to explain what the Mediterranean is, showing how blurred the boundary can be between what is imagined and what is real. Through the contributions of the guests we will try to understand how much of that imagined Mediterranean there may be in the real one and how much of that imagination has come down to us, perhaps adapting to the times and changing, just as the human communities that have always animated it change he lived”.

The calendar will continue Saturday 15 June in Stintinoat the Tonnara Museum and will end on August 30th at the nuragic site S’Arcu ‘e is Forros in Villagrande Strisaili.

In the two days in Cagliari of the Sardinia Archeo Festival, thirteen male and female scholars archeologyhistory, philosophy, religion, glottology coming from the world of university, research and journalism they will propose reflections and news around the Mediterranean, the ancient cities, the myths, the stories and the narratives that have marked our past.

The first day opened in the morning at 10 am with the photographic laboratory organized by Luisa Siddi; at 3pm, in the Ghetto Walls room, the Festival came to life with speeches by Flavia Frisonearchaeologist, Giampaolo Salicehistorical, Marco Minojaarchaeologist, which was followed by a meeting with Luca Misculinjournalist from The postAnd Riccardo Ginevraglottologist, authors of the podcast The invasion dedicated to the diffusion of Indo-European languages ​​and cultures, moderated by the journalist Francesca Mulas.

Sunday 9 June the first appointment is at 10 with the journalist and archaeologist Valentina Porchedduwhich will be followed by the archaeologists’ reports Massimo Cultraro And Valentino Nizzoby the glottologist Riccardo Ginevra, by the historian Santiago Sabariero Sanchez; after the lunch break we will continue from 3pm with Anna Carforateacher of Church History, Gianni Palumbonaturalist and ornithologist, Francesco Bellu, journalist and archaeologist expert in cinema; the last reflection on “The Mediterranean within us” is entrusted to the philosopher Silvano Tagliagambe.

Both evenings will end with music: with Odysseys without banks. Sounds and songs from the Mediterranean, Ninfa Giannuzzi, Sandro Fresi, Luca Schiavo and Massimo Cerra will accompany the audience on a sound journey from one side of the Mare Nostrum to the other.

The following week the program will move to Stintino Tonnara Museum. There will be an evening in memory of Saturday 15 June at 3pm Marco Rendeliarchaeologist and friend of the Festival: the archaeologist Elisabetta Garau will take stock of the research on the Alghero site of Sant’Imbenia, while Ilaria Guidantonijournalist and writer, will talk about Mediterranean languages.

The Sardinia Archeo Festival will also offer an end-of-summer event Friday 30 August the S’Arcu ‘e is Forros site in Villagrande Strisaili, in the heart of Barbagiawill open to visits with debates and screenings carried out in collaboration with Archeonova And Festival of Communication and Archaeological Cinema of Licodia Eubea.
