Milan, 7 June. (askanews) – The third edition of “Abbey Wines” opened on 7 June in the village in front of the Fossanova Abbey in Priverno (Latina), the three-day event created to underline “the importance of the role that, since since the Middle Ages, the Abbeys have played a role not only in the production of wine but also in the preservation of vines and agricultural and forestry areas”. Over 30 wineries were present, including some important French abbeys linked to the Les Vins D’Abbayes Association, which carries out an initiative similar to this in Paris.

This edition also sees the participation of Georgia, present with the Alaverdi Monastery dating back to the 6th century AD, and known for its wine in amphora. Another novelty will be represented by the Abbey of Santa Maria de La Matina, in San Marco Argentano in the province of Cosenza, a resting place for crusaders leaving for the Holy War and a stop on an obligatory itinerary for the Knights of Malta. “Since the first edition we have enthusiastically participated in this territorial valorization project where we deploy our service and organizational skills as tasters and speakers to enhance the wines coming from Italian and transalpine Abbeys but also the wines and products of Latina ” declared Umberto Trombelli of the AIS delegation from Latina which coordinates the event which will end on June 9th, and which is also a gastronomic village curated by Slow Food Latina, with numerous stands of producers and principals of the great international movement, with free admission.

The tasting stands of the Cellars, distributed around the Cloister of the Abbey, are open from 4pm to 10pm, and every day, starting from 5pm, masterclasses aimed at the productions of the various Abbeys take place in the Refectory. The meeting “Wine, tourism and culture – The resources of a territory” will be held on 8 June at 6pm in the former Conversi Infirmary of the Abbey, in which the president of the Frosinone and Latina Chamber of Commerce, Giovanni Acampora, will speak. , the president of the special company Informare, Luigi Niccolini, the president of Confagricoltura Massimiliano Giansanti, the extraordinary commissioner Arsial, Massimiliano Raffa, the councilor of the Lazio Region, Giancarlo Righini.
