In a recent interview with SkyTg24, Stefano Bonaccini, president of Emilia-Romagna and candidate of the Democratic Party in the European elections in the north-east, expressed severe criticism towards the current Minister of Health, Orazio Schillaci, and the Prime Minister , Giorgia Meloni. Criticism of the management of public health Bonaccini harshly attacked the Minister of Health, Orazio Schillaci, calling him “certainly a decent person” but “one of the worst ministers the country has had regarding public health”. The governor of Emilia-Romagna accused Schillaci of being ineffective in solving the problems of the health sector, despite repeated denunciations of the existing critical issues. “As a minister he continues to denounce what is wrong but he has not been able, since he has been in government, to do anything to resolve it”, underlined Bonaccini. An emblematic example of the Minister’s shortcomings, according to Bonaccini, is represented by the recent decree to reduce healthcare waiting lists. This measure, approved a few days before the elections, was criticized for its lack of financial coverage. “It is incredible that it is being done three days before the vote, and therefore it is pure electoral propaganda, a decree that has no financial backing and therefore will not solve anything”, declared Bonaccini. The controversial choices on migration policy Bonaccini’s criticisms did not stop at healthcare. He also expressed strong disappointment regarding Giorgia Meloni’s visit to Albania and the government’s decision to spend around one billion euros to build infrastructure for migrants in Albania, a choice he called “quite surreal”. According to Bonaccini, these funds would have been better used to strengthen public health in Italy. “In a period in which people complain about the lack of funds for public health, spending a billion euros to do things in Albania that could be done in Italy is absurd,” said Bonaccini, adding that the migrants who will benefit from these facilities however, they are very few compared to the total. He also accused the government of not keeping its election promises on immigration.
