Caript Foundation, the program of the new president Luca Gori

Solidarity, subsidiary and generative: these are the three key words identified by Luca Gori, 41 years old, designated president of the Caript Foundation, to describe the organisation’s action over the next four years. He will take office on July 1st and in his mandate program he has defined the strategic lines of intervention of the Foundation.

«For the spirit with which I accepted this role, I will pay particular attention to the issues of gender equality, generational turnover and adequate representation of the different territories – began Gori -. Criteria that are important to me also within the Foundation and which I will follow starting from the choice of the new board of directors.”

The designated president then underlines the objectives and methods with which to operate: «After a phase in which the foundations of banking origin worked as generally grant-making bodies, today they act as real actors of social freedoms, facilitating, promoting and encouraging structural change processes in crucial areas for the community. Our objective, therefore, is to commit to a modern vision of solidarity, which is not a mere form of charity, but responds to a vision of a more equitable community, bringing together cultural, social, political and economic perspectives.”

For this reason, in the program the theme of subsidiarity is linked to the need to aggregate resources and subjects, both public and private, from the Third Sector to the business world, to facilitate and support changes rooted in the local context, at the same time connected to the great evolutions of our era.

Some examples of subsidiarity “in action” are the paths launched for the Foundation of the Pistoia Communities, for the Valdinievole Masterplan and, naturally, for the establishment in Pistoia of the new training, research and technological transfer center of the University of Florence.

“There is then another side of subsidiarity to reflect on – added Gori -: evaluating from time to time whether the Foundation should intervene directly, build partnerships or support public and private entities that already operate in certain areas. Even the instrument of disbursements, which has always been widely used, must be seen in the perspective of solving open problems, therefore it cannot be an end, but only a means”.

In the mandate program, resources are directed towards “generative” action. This means giving up small-scale interventions or interventions with limited horizons and at the same time avoiding experiments as an end in themselves, which are then unable to be structured into stable intervention policies.

“Our direct actions must have significant repercussions, aiming for results that public or private bodies would be unlikely to achieve independently. I am thinking of the Pistoia Dialogues or projects such as the Business Innovation tender and the Renewable Energy Communities – said Gori -. They will be evaluations of impact on the various initiatives to orient ourselves on how to enhance the resources that we can make available, also thinking about calls for tenders dedicated to specific areas of the territory”.

Finally, in the mandate program it is made clear that, due to the relevance of some sectors, the Foundation will continue to operate through instrumental bodies. Fondazione Pistoia Musei will have the responsibility of exploring in an increasingly in-depth way the connections between culture, economic development and welfare: permanent collections, exhibitions and events will be the main means to achieve this result. For the Uniser Pistoia Foundation, a reflection is open on how the institution will have to develop its mission in the fields of education, training and training, also in light of the possible arrival of a university settlement in the city. GEA – Green Economy and Agriculture represents a strategic asset for the regeneration plan which concerns an entire area of the city, also in relation to the future presence of the University in Pistoia. The important environmental intervention already carried out in the 25 hectares of park is a starting point for creating a place dedicated to the development of new businesses and the creation of quality jobs.
