Foggia, Commissioner Antonio D’Amore retires: the acceptance speech

Antonio D’amore joined the police on 8 September 1986 with the course in Senigallia. After the course he was assigned to the Mobile Department of Turin where in addition to public order services (stadium, strikes, workers’ demonstrations, etc.) he was assigned to the maxi trial in Palermo and the search for the kidnapping of Cesare Casella.

In August 1989 he was transferred to the postal police of Foggia carrying out escort services for postal valuables.

In December 1993 he won the competition for superintendent and after the course in Pescara he was assigned to the squad cars of the Foggia Police Headquarters and here he alternates between shifts at the police station and the complaints office.

In 1999 he was officially transferred to the Prostitution section of the flying squad also in Foggia.

After six months he asks for transfer to the Anti-Crime Division – Complaints office. After two years, he was assigned to the Minors office where he worked from 2000 to 2001. Here he dealt with all types of violence and it is precisely in this that he understands that that sector is what will keep him busy until retirement.

Then in 2001, still ex officio, he was transferred to the Foggia flying squad until his retirement. Responsible for the 3rd Section Crimes against the person and to the detriment of minors, in 2003 he won the competition as superior inspector and then as deputy commissioner.

After many courses on the topic of violence in Rome, Brescia, Spoleto, Nettuno, in 2017 with the qualifications acquired for courses and awards following various investigations, he was promoted to Commissioner. Commissioner Sirna proposed that he continue to act as an official in charge of the flying squad in the 3rd Section.

In April he achieved the rank of chief commissioner.

Over the course of his long career, Antonio D’amore stood out for his unlimited kindness and generosity. During an investigation several years ago, he came across the case of a 13-year-old Nigerian girl in a facility for minors in Ascoli Satriano.

From that moment D’amore decided to take care of her, hosting her in a home he owned, integrating her into his family, treating her like a daughter. In 2021, in the midst of the Covid era, Antonio D’amore accompanies her to the altar like a true father.

The Foggia Police Headquarters, with the retirement of the Commissioner, loses a fundamental element, a policeman – by his own admission – “who never stopped being an agent, never behind a desk but always among the people, helping the people”.
