ROVIGO – A total turnover of 1.4 billion euros. This is what the effective grounding of the investments planned for the Po Valley waterway system supply chain could generate, of which thenavigable route Fissero-Tartaro-Canalbianco-Po di Levante it is a key element. A “river highway” of approximately 137 kilometres, which involves 25 economic macro-sectors and generates an added value of almost 500 million for the territory (approximately 3% of the GDP of the provinces of Rovigo and Mantua) for 3,500 jobs. These are the data illustrated yesterday at the Rovigo Interport in the report “The Italian navigable network: a new resource for the country. The opportunities offered by the optimization and efficiency of the waterway system of Northern Italy” created by The European House – Ambrosetti (Teha) for Confindustria Veneto Est and Confindustria Mantova in collaboration with the Province of Rovigo, the Province of Mantua, Infrastrutture Venete (a company owned by the Veneto Region), the Port System Authority of the Northern Adriatic Sea, the Rovigo Interport.

NAVIGABLE ROD

The Fissero-Tartaro-Canalbianco navigable route has been talked about for decades, but now there are the resources and the will to put it on land. By 2030 Venetian Infrastructures in fact, it will invest over 25 million to eliminate infrastructure problems and complete the main dredging works to guarantee transit for large vessels (fifth class), which is now prevented. There are six “bottlenecks” to be resolved in the province of Rovigo: the Rantin road bridge in Loreo, the railway bridge on the Rovigo-Chioggia line in Rosolina, the Calà del Moro road bridge in Bagnolo di Po, the Trecenta road bridge, the Arquà Polesine railway bridge and finally the Zelo road bridge. Dredging interventions worth 2.4 million are underway in Adria, Torretta and Rovigo Interporto, to which must be added a further 1.5 million investments for works on five navigation locks (16 are already automated). «The economic commitment of the Region for interventions to redevelop, strengthen and secure state property for inland navigation from 2020 to today amounts to 78 million» underlined Elisa De Berti, vice-president and councilor for Infrastructure of the Region. However, for the waterway system to become attractive for businesses, conditions must be created, such as an incentive system. In Rovigo, the deputy minister of Infrastructure and Transport Edoardo Rixi announced that the tender for river navigation is being processed. «There are 175 million to increase the supply chain. There are no other areas in Italy where waterways can be fundamental for logistics.”

ZLS

«An opportunity to be seized – declared Leopoldo Destro, president of Confindustria Veneto Est and Confindustria delegate for Transport and Logistics – also in view of the full deployment of the potential of the ZLS and of the production districts upstream and downstream of the navigable stretch of the Po, as well and, looking to the future, of the Hydrogen Valley of Marghera and Valdaro (Mantua)”.
