North-West redevelopment. The start of work on the cycle path is imminent

The start of the redevelopment works of the North-West entrance of Ferrara is now imminent with the approval of the executive project (30 May 2024) and the opening of the construction site scheduled for June 2024. The new route for cyclists is part of the broader urban redevelopment and regeneration project of the north-west access to the city, which has a Pnrr investment of 4 million and 850 thousand euros.

In short, it involves the construction of a two-lane road with a cycle path and a tree-lined curtain on via Marconi, in addition to the roundabout that will intersect via Modena and via Marconi, eliminating the current traffic light at the intersection. Another roundabout will be built at the entrance also to allow the U-turn and return to Via Modena.

After having acquired the railway areas to be able to create the cycle path (on the former abandoned railway track which was owned by RFI) along the via Marconi-via del Lavoro axis (March 2024) and after the closure of the assignment procedure through an integrated contract (which therefore combines the definitive and executive design with the execution of the works), the contract was entrusted to the temporary grouping of companies formed by Studio Mic-Hub of Milan (design studio) and Sintexcal/Boschiva as companies that will carry out jobs. Sintexcal will also be the leader of the RTI.

The drafting of the definitive design was delivered on 12 December 2023, and was subsequently definitively approved by the Services Conference, which concluded on 2 February 2024.

The design studio was commissioned to draw up the executive project. Local offices, designers and stakeholders have verified and examined the detailed aspects reported in this last level of design.

The executive project has now been approved (30 May 2024) and the delivery of the works is expected in June 2024. The construction phases are being evaluated to cause as little disruption as possible to traffic access to the city.

This is a route that includes not only the route considered in this project – which goes from the Michelini flyover to the entrance to the Coop -, but concerns more broadly all the areas from via Padova to the roundabout on via del Lavoro, in front of the new terminal of buses. This will allow us, with further funding already allocated, partly with Pnrr (urban cycle paths 2nd lot) and partly with regional PR-FSR. The acquisitions of the former IP distributor area, now subject to reclamation, have already been completed, while those of other areas included in the project are underway, as is the reclamation procedure of the central island where the Eni distributor was located.

For this reason we ask those who read us every day and, we hope, appreciate us to give us a small contribution based on their possibilities. Even a small amount of support, multiplied by the tens of thousands of Ferrarese who read us every day, can become fundamental.
