TREVISO – From China to the surgery department of Ca’ Foncello. The hospitals of Local Health Authority 2 are increasingly international thanks to the exchanges that company professionals implement in their departments for updating and comparison useful to the various teams. Last Friday it was the turn of doctors arrived from People’s Republic of China. The update meeting UpToDate on colorectal cancer treatmentorganized by General Surgery 1 of the Treviso hospital, was an opportunity to invite colleagues fromZhejiang University Hospital, led by Dr. Ke-feng Dingfull professor of Oncological Surgery, vice president of the hospital, deputy director ofOncology Instituteas well as director of Colon-Rectal Tumor Core from the Chinese Cancer Association. «I can only express pride in the fact that our hospitals are able to attract professionals from all over the world to training and updating – declares the general director, Francesco Benazzi -. I congratulate Dr. Massani and his staff for organizing this exchange with Chinese colleagues and for using cutting-edge instrumentation in patient monitoring.”

Robotic surgery

The “twinning” was organized by Dr. Marco Massani, director of Surgery 1, as part of the continuous scientific updating of his team. The Chinese colleagues participated as observers in a speech minimally invasive robotic surgery performed using the Da-Vinci Robot it’s at an update exchange on colorectal cancer treatmenton the case studies, on the therapeutic path and on the latest treatment news. This first appointment will serve to establish an effective and constant collaboration with the Center of the People’s Republic of China, also providing for the possibility of sending the doctors of Surgery 1 of Ca’ Foncello to the Center directed by Prof Ke-feng Ding.

The “smart” monitoring system

The update meeting also represented the opportunity to inaugurate the recent installation of an innovative system patient monitoring usable both during their hospitalization and once they are discharged, first connection in a public hospital in Italy, already employed in other international realities, as in the case of the Chinese delegation. It’s about wearable systems (hence the name MWear), of small size, which allow, 24 hours on 24by rTake all vital signs: electrocardiogram, saturation, temperature, activity carried out by the patient and also any falls. All the parameters detected are transmitted to a control unit/monitor installed in the department, equipped with an alarm and which can be consulted at any time by healthcare personnel.

The device dedicated to monitoring of discharged patients it is also connected to the department’s control panel through a simple application. The patient is also provided with a small portable modem, freeing him from the need to have his own internet connection. Also in this case the staff will be able to detect the parameters and be alarmed in the event of a change in needs. The system, certified according to current regulations regarding the management of sensitive data, was purchased by Ulss 2 also thanks to the generous donation of two companies who, for the moment, preferred to remain anonymous.
