Capuano, decisive hours. Taranto is waiting for the yes

TARANTO Speaking to Antenna Sud, late on Friday evening, Massimo Giove confirmed Ezio Capuano without leaving even a glimmer of a goodbye: “It remains one hundred percent.” News welcomed positively by the fans, enthusiastic to start again with the coach who, after more than a decade, has brought Taranto back to fighting for prestigious goals. Basically, however, the only “bell” heard was that of the rossoblù number one, while on the part of the coach – who has always been active in the media – there remains a state of silence which began just over a week ago, i.e. in conjunction with the team’s elimination from the playoffs for the B series. “I’ll take a few days off, then I’ll talk to the president”. A meeting which, in reality, never took place: the last contact between the parties was recorded in the post-Vicenza period, it would seem, with Jupiter’s thanks to Capuano for the excellent season played by Taranto, which probably went beyond all expectations.

Giove’s declarations change the cards on the table, but do not in any way exclude the possibility that Capuano could continue his career elsewhere. Also because the coach does not want to fail in the foundations of the project signed last year, aimed at ensuring that Taranto, within three years, reaches Serie B. The season just ended saw the rossoblù reach second position on the field (officially fifth due to the penalty): next year, therefore, to give continuity to the project bases, the Ionian team should fight for first position. A sort of discriminating factor from which there is no escape: Capuano would not stay if he were presented with a downsized project or, in any case, one not aimed at competing for major objectives.

Everything will be clarified after the meeting between president and coach which, at the moment, is not even on the calendar. The “tangle” to be unraveled for registration for the next championship involves no short timescale, more so, which is why the technical issues have inevitably taken a backseat, so much so that, only after June 4th, will they be made official the first moves. The coaching issue, therefore, is not yet completely resolved because Giove – through his statements – has expressed what the club thinks, moving forward with Capuano, but it is the coach, at the moment, who has not yet expressed himself. Certainly, in the event of a farewell, Taranto would have to fill, in one fell swoop, two boxes: that of the coach, but also that of the sporting director. Capuano, in fact, in the recent year held both roles even if, officially, the club’s sporting director was – from the federal documents – Massimo Giove with Capuano, unofficially, responsible for the technical area. While waiting to decipher the technical future, in the last few hours a press release also arrived from APS Taras 706 BCthe trust that holds 7% of the shares of Taranto FC 1927. «The APS – we read – asks the president Massimo Giove to meet publicly with the fans for an urgent discussion aimed at discussing unresolved issues, the current state of the club and on future prospects”. The trust closes with a wish: «We must not squander, for the umpteenth time in our history, a heritage accumulated with great effort by everyone.” As of today, a conference by the patron is not on the calendar, but it could be, indicatively, towards the middle of June.
