Serie A Gold: Brixen reaches Fasano in the Scudetto final | Salvation for Secchia Rubiera

Sidea Group Fasano – Brixen is the final that will award the 2023/24 Serie A Gold Scudetto. It will be an unprecedented final act, unprecedented in 55 seasons of Italian men’s handball, which will see the Apulians, reigning Italian champions, challenge the holders of the Italian Cup. If the Junior had already achieved the pass last Saturday against Alperia Black Devils – the semi-final series ended in two games – on the contrary, Brixen solved the problem in 180′, beating this evening (Saturday) Conversano in game 3 with the final result of 33-21.

For Brixen led by Michael Niederwieser it is a return to the Scudetto final 18 years after the last time, to be found again in the 2005/06 season in a match lost at the time in three games (out of five) against Conversano. For the South Tyroleans, twice Italian champions between 1991 and 1992, it will be the seventh final for the Italian flag. A single precedent in a match for a title, however, between the two protagonists of the fight for the Scudetto: Brixen overcame Fasano in the 60 minutes that awarded the 2022 Italian Cup at the RDS Stadium in Rimini.

BRIXEN – CONVERSANO 33-21. We return to the pitch 48 hours after the 34-27 with which the Brixen team had equalized the match. High stakes, a very heartfelt match that the home team will practically always have the lead. Conversano’s only advantage came in the 9th minute when Souid made it 3-2, in a goal-stinging start to the match. Brixen can count on Volarevic from his best days and the excellent shooting evening of the Brazilian De Oliveira, who finished with nine goals. At 21′ the home team extends to 9-5. Conversano responds with a mini-break (9-7), but shortly after Arcieri and then Tinkir close the first half at 12-9. At the start of the second half Brixen lost Stricker due to disqualification, but after having already created a significant gap: in the 39th minute the score was set at 20-12. Tarafino spends two time-outs between the 37th and 41st minutes, but the trend doesn’t change. In the final minutes Bressanone spreads. Disqualification for Degiorgio among the Apulians and match scored. Brixen in the Scudetto final.

PLAY OUT. Secchia Rubiera overturns the field factor and in game 3 conquers Pala Quaresima, home of Macagi Cingoli, prevailing with a score of 35-32 (pt 18-17) and gaining salvation in Serie A Gold. Great performance from the Rubieresi, patient in taking on the outbursts from the Marche and capable of making a breakthrough in the final rush, with a 3-0 break which in the 57th minute set the score at an irreversible 32-28. Secchia Rubiera maintains the top flight. For Cingoli, however, there is one last resort to share with Trieste: the teams of Sergio Palazzi and Fredi Radojkovic will be against each other in the last round of the play-outs. Field factor in game 2 and possible game 3 in favor of Macagi due to the best placing in the regular season.
