He disappeared from Sicily more than ten years ago. Today it turns out that his body was buried in Emilia. The one solved by the DNA test is a real mystery. The remains of the body found on 11 July 2023 buried in the countryside of Castelnovo di Sotto, in the province of Reggio Emilia, belong to Gaetano Impellizzeri, from Alcamo, in the province of Trapani. A sales agent working in the automotive and household appliances sectors, he passed away on 10 February 2014: he was 47 years old at the time.

The result of the DNA test was revealed by the lawyer Giuseppe Accardo, of the Marsala Bar, who released a note signed together with Impellizzeri’s daughters, Alessia and Eleonora Chiara, who provided the biological material to carry out the DNA comparison. The test was entrusted to Ris of the Parma Carabinieri.
“The tests have confirmed that it is Gaetano Impellizzeri” write the lawyer and his daughters in the note. The lawyer Accardo adds that he “reserves the right to formulate any other statement upon having read the investigation file”.

Impellizzeri disappeared shortly after landing at the airport Orio al Serio of Bergamo. The story has been followed over time by Who has seen?, the well-known Rai television program. The investigative unit of the Carabinieri of Reggio Emilia is investigating the case with the coordination of the local Prosecutor’s Office. Three people are under investigation for homocide, presumably carried out with a firearm, with a subsequent concealment of the body. The testimony of a justice collaborator led the searches in the garden of a farmhouse, owned by people unrelated to the investigation. On the morning of last July 11, 2023, using one ultrasound scanner, an inspection of the garden was carried out which revealed the body at a depth of about half a metre. The body was wrapped in a sack. Among the various hypotheses taken into consideration, also that Impellizzeri could be in financial difficulties and that he was trying to start a new business in the car trading sector.
