Doors and windows that vibrate constantly, whether it is night or day, noise pollution and dust everywhere. This is the life of the residents of Prisciano in Terni who, exhausted and exasperated by the situation, launch a new SOS. Among the many video reports created by citizens and published by the area committee on its social media page, there is one that particularly alarms residents.

A resident’s experiment In less than a minute of video, the citizen summarizes the drama experienced every day by those who live in that area. «On May 21, 2024 (a citizen ed.) cleaned the windowsill of his home. On May 24th he passed a white cloth over that same windowsill to check if and how much dust had settled in recent days.” The result is very similar to that of many other reports. «Shocking – writes the Committee – in just three days an incredible quantity of dust has accumulated and furthermore, by testing with a magnet, it is demonstrated that it is not simple dust but metallic dust». And the final comment is caustic: “At this point any other word would be superfluous.”

The powders The picture returned last March during the presentation of the air quality data relating to the year 2023 would seem to confirm the citizens’ fears. On that occasion, in particular, it emerged that the most worrying thing was nickel. And in the Prisciano area, steelmaking activity records a high concentration of this metal. At the time, however, the director of Arpa Umbria, Luca Proietti, had commented as follows: «The company, however, does not stand idly by and indeed in collaboration with the University of Perugia, has drawn up a study on the effects that the exposure to nickel has on workers and more generally on human health”.
