On the evening of last Tuesday 21 May, the State Police of the Busto Arsizio Commissariat intervened in a supermarket in via Palestro where what had just been committed, which began as a theft, had turned into a robbery. The store employees had noticed a man wandering around the shelves and putting some goods in a backpack, which he filled and left the supermarket after showing only one can to the cashier.

Followed by the shop assistants, who had attempted to stop him to induce him to return or pay for the goods, worth around 100 euros, which he had hidden, the man had gotten on a bicycle, setting off at full speed and not hesitating to hit the leg of a saleswoman. He was then followed by another employee, who had to stop following him when the cyclist took a wrong turn.

The police had no choice but to view the images recorded by the supermarket’s video surveillance and take note of the criminal’s features. In the early afternoon of the following day the same patrol noticed a man waiting for the train on a platform of the FS station and recognized him as the perpetrator of the robbery immortalized by the cameras.

This, a thirty-two-year-old resident in Gallarate but effectively homeless, with a criminal record, was searched: in his pockets he had a knife, a dose of heroin and one of hashish and some of the goods stolen the day before from the supermarket. The man was then reported for the robbery and for possession of the knife and reported for the drugs intended for his personal use.
