an area to be protected and preserved • newsrimini.it

For the day of protection of biodiversity and avifauna, the Basta Plastica in mare association organized a guided tour of knowledge together with Loris Bagli, naturalist and botanist, scholar in particular of the border land between Rimini and Riccione, and Marco Zaoli , architect, planner and landscape designer, UniBo teacher, consultant of the association, in the area of the abandoned colonies, between Bolognese and Reggiana in the Municipality of Rimini, up to the mouth of the Marano, formerly in the Municipality of Riccione.

Bagli and Zaoli shared the need to preserve that vast territory of great ecological interest which preserves some intact areas, spontaneous dunes and rare plants: from the sea and the beach to the partly green and partly urbanized territory which extends, rich in biodiversity, upstream from the mouth of the watercourse, between the Bolognese and Novara colonies and the abandoned Conchiglie structure.

“It is – we read in the association’s press release – a vast, partly abused and degraded area considered unattractive by the two administrations”.

“The provincial territorial plan – acknowledges Zaoli – has highlighted the importance of the wetland around the Marano – which must be definitely protected from further anthropisation, planning it to counteract: erosion, rising sea levels and climate.” According to experts, the alarm is raised because it is a habitat of great collective ecological value for entire communities that institutions should be able to protect, with rules that protect it from the risk of building and economic speculation. However, Riccione has not yet expressed itself and the Rimini Beach Plan has not dealt with it with sufficient clarity. This must also be said in light of the fact that both the Conchiglie and the Colonia Bolognese were purchased at auction by hotel companies, and that the will of the Municipality of Rimini is to also sell the Novarese, publicly owned, a collective heritage together with Thermal Baths of Rimini”.

To protect that still natural place from major events, Basta Plastica in Mare continues its public utility campaign and intends to promote an agreement between universities, associations and institutions, public and private companies. For this purpose, the fundraising is aimed at which, also through crowdfunding, will finance the feasibility study of a mixed team from the universities of Ferrara and Bologna and of young members of the professional association Generazione Mare, graduates from Luiss and the Polytechnic of Milan.

This is a project already partly financed by one of the two Degree and Research Awards of 7,000 euros aimed at recent graduates in the Rimini Campus of UniBO, allocated by Basta Plastica in Mare and named after the Rimini hotel entrepreneur Alessandro Massani.
