8 people were arrested in partial response to the growing concern of the population of Lower Piedmont

Lower Piedmont thefts – This morning at dawn, in the provinces of Cuneo and Asti, the Carabinieri of the Alba Company, in collaboration with those of Asti and Mondovì, arrested eight people.

The provision was issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Asti, at the request of the local Public Prosecutor’s Office, for Italian citizens, held responsible for complicity in the theft of copper and ferrous material.

The “Copper” investigation began in October 2023 by the Carabinieri of the Operational Unit of the Carabinieri Company of Alba and of the Santo Stefano Belbo CC Station and also conducted through the examination of the video surveillance images of the municipal video surveillance system of Santo Stefano Belbo.

The suspects specialized in thefts of copper and steel, committed in a school complex, a shopping center and from various homes.

Their operational headquarters was Asti and they moved easily between the provinces of Asti and Cuneo, with an uncommon mastery of the territory.

The suspects, with a precise division of well-defined roles and tasks, reached the place to be plundered on board two cars and with extreme rapidity removed the material of interest both outside and inside the building, in the latter case forcing doors and windows to gain access.

The ordinance cites the commission of six thefts which are estimated to have yielded a sum between 50 and 70,000 euros.

Command -, which saw approximately 50 carabinieri employed, 3 of those arrested were subjected to house arrest at their respective homes, while another 3 were subjected to the obligation to report to the police, while two other alleged accomplices were sent to prison freedom.

The operation constitutes an albeit partial response to the growing concern of the local population, and to the correlative request for an increase in security arising from a significant criminal phenomenon, such as that of the theft of copper and other “precious” materials.

Finally, it is good to highlight how all today’s suspects must be considered innocent until a final conviction is issued against them>>.
