A cushion of flowers to remember the victims of terrorism, the mafia, duty and every form of crime: this is what the Autonomous Police Union has placed on the commemorative plaque of the fallen police in Lizza, “to commemorate all those who have paid with their lives for their commitment to the community”.

“Memorial day” is the name of the initiatives implemented by Sap. The Sienese event was attended by members of the provincial secretariat of the acronym, representatives of the National Association of State Police and the police chaplain

“This year marks the thirty-second anniversary of the Capaci and Via D’Amelio massacres, in which judges Falcone and Borsellino and their escorts lost their lives and like every year – commented the provincial secretary of Siena Andrea Bensi –, the In the month of May, Sap wants to remember all the victims of duty. Memorial day is an opportunity to show closeness and respect to the families of the victims. But remembering is not just a form of respect, it is a duty, it is a way of demonstrating that to change reality it is essential to commit every day so that history does not repeat itself.”

The organization, he continues, “wants to keep alive our thoughts towards all the victims of terrorism and crime and their families who bear the signs of mourning and profound suffering. Those who paid with the sacrifice of their lives in the fulfillment of their duty must represent a collective and shared heritage of memory to be passed down to all generations, but in particular to young people who must know so as not to forget.”

“With the “Memorial Day” we want to contribute to keeping the memory alive and promoting the values that are inspired by legality and justice, because those who sacrificed their lives for a better country must remain alive in the memory and this testimony must reach everyone because a country without memory risks making the same mistakes in the future,” he adds.
