The cultural association Aprilia Libera, for this spring 2024, proposes the fourth edition of “A bike jump into the past”, an educational-experiential journey through some of the emergencies of the tour developed around the village of Campoverde.

“We will be accompanied among the remains of Latin, Roman, Lombard and medieval peoples by the archaeologist, Dr. Sonia Modica and the representative for the Sapore di Natura association, Enrico Latini, scholars of the Campoverde area.

After an initial illustration of the origins of the village of San Pietro in Formis, the route includes a first stop in the strip of territory affected by the Campoverde-Valmontone motorway link project, where it will be possible to see how much valuable productive agricultural land will be consumed to encourage the The use of road mobility, a political choice in stark contrast to the directions of the European New Green Deal.

The tour will continue with a stop at the Laghetto del Monsignore, where there was an ancient votive shrine around which the nucleus of Pollusca arose. We will set off again towards Crocetta di Carano, with a brief digression for tastings at the Trani company. Then it will be the turn of the Laghetti di Carano, where we will stop for a picnic and, finally, on the curve of via Roselli, a historical overview of the medieval site of Torre del Padiglione will be illustrated, part of the system of lookouts on the Nettuno road axis -Lanuvio.

“Knowledge” means valorising and protecting a heritage that is falling into oblivion and wild overbuilding. All the archaeological finds found in the Campoverde area have been lost, looted or in national museums: Aprilia has never had a museum in which to exhibit and make its history and roots known to its citizens and is losing all its treasures. Nor has it ever seen restrictions placed to protect historical-archaeological sites or eco-cultural itineraries created to enhance them.

Let’s help our territory to maintain the precious inheritance received and its biodiversity for future generations, discovering its history and its natural beauty! We look forward to seeing you on Saturday 1st June at the Borgo di San Pietro in Formis in Campoverde, at 9:00 am.

The No Bretella Cisterna-Valmontone and No Rome-Latina Corridor committees join.
