The conference at the Medicus in Tivoli on developmental disabilities and the end of life

A discussion on developmental disability and the end of life took place this morning at the Auditorium of the INI Medicus in Tivoli for the conference entitled “The meaning of life: the duty to assist from dawn to dusk”, organized by INI Group.

Two topics which, from the point of view of public debate, deserve greater attention, visibility and recognition. The speakers’ interventions highlighted the centrality of the dignity of the person in every phase of life, from the beginning to the end, as well as the need for an efficient network between public and private structures, the importance of the humanization of care, in particularly for these types of patients, support for families as an essential value of global and complex care. Many themes were shared by the speakers, introduced by Christopher FaroniPresident of the INI Group: Jessica Veronica FaroniHealthcare Manager of the INI Group, Franco CortellessaHealth Director of the ASL Roma 5 who during the intervention made the reopening of the Tivoli Hospital official on 27 May, Pasquale ParisiFull Professor at the Sapienza University of Rome (Department of Neuroscience, Mental Health and Sense Organs), Maria Nicoletta AlibertiHead of Centers for Rehabilitative and Diagnostic Sciences for Developmental Age INI Group e Simona BarberiHead of Hospice INI Medicus.

Cristopher Faroni, President of the INI Group: “Professionalism and humanity are essential elements”

“To be able to treat patients of this type, professionalism and humanity are fundamental. We are proud to have covered these topics, with such prestigious speakers and such touching testimonies from families whose children and relatives were cared for at Medicus. We thank the Region which follows and appreciates the activities that our teams carry out here every day”.

Jessica Veronica Faroni: “A duty to assist patients at 360 degrees in every stage of life”

“Today’s conference was particularly touching and important. All the people who intervened, from the institutional and scientific world, family members and patients, demonstrated how important 360-degree assistance to the patient is in all its phases, how important it is to raise awareness of the early diagnosis of a child by paediatricians , the centrality of the network with schools, to then be correctly directed to assistance centers specialized in child neuropsychiatry such as Medicus. All of this is necessary for the child to be able to develop the skills that will allow him to live an independent life. And finally how important attention and humanization are at the end of life to try to assist in the right way and giving a smile even in the final moment of life”.

Testimonies from the families of the patients assisted

Moments of great emotion closed the conference with the emotional speeches of the mothers of 2 small autistic patients cared for at Medicus, who spoke about their diagnosis experience, the care path and the great goals achieved, and the husband of a woman who wanted to talk about the serenity experienced by his wife in the last days of her life, thanks to the professionalism and humanity of the staff of the Tiburtina facility.
