“I want to remind the institutions and the Italian government that there is a massacre underway in Gaza, 35 thousand people have died, mostly women and children, it is enough to supply Italian weapons to Israel”. This is the message with which the former deputy Stefano Apuzzo, candidate for the European elections with Avs, before leaving the Chamber explained the demonstrative gesture with which he hung two Palestinian flags on one of the balconies of Montecitorio, after having gone out of a window and having walked on an external ledge.

Neapolitan born in 1966, elected to Montecitorio with the Greens in 1992, long-time councilor in Rozzano (Milan), he explained that his intention was initially “to display the flags in the gallery in the Chamber, but as soon as I entered the session was adjourned”. “Afterwards I went to the Aldo Moro Room, where an exhibition is on display – said Apuzzo, explaining that he is also an art critic -. The window was open and I climbed out, then I walked for about ten meters on the ledge and I hung the flags on the balcony. A bit like I did almost 30 years ago at the French embassy building with Marina Ripa di Meana, to protest against Chirac’s nuclear experiments…” . This time the gesture “served to give a wake-up call to institutions and government – said Apuzzo, explaining that after an interlude in the Democratic Party a few years ago it is now part of green Europe -. A ceasefire is needed, the Israeli hostages and the two and a half million Palestinians held hostage by Netanyahu, no more Italian weapons for Israel, and a stop to the genocide in Gaza. Italy with Leonardo and Oto Melara is the protagonist of what is happening in Gaza.
Then we have national agreements on security and technology with Israel. My gesture is dedicated to the young people camped throughout Italy and around the world who protest against the agreements with Israeli universities, which may also have military reverberations.”
