L’AQUILA – On 18 May 2024, on the occasion of a three-day event in Teramo dedicated to the Alpine troops, a delegation of teachers from the IC Don Milani of Pizzoli presented a video created by the students of the third classes of the Institute focused on the values of peace and solidarity.
The students involved produced an essay designed to bring out their vision of the democratic values protected and safeguarded by the Italian Constitution and a video through which to present it. Thanks to the work carried out by the teachers and students, the Institute was awarded the scholarship My values, our valuesup for grabs in the competition of the same name.
The students expressed their reflections on those values, individual respect for which is a harbinger of universal respect for every living being. They therefore created an epistolary correspondence entitled Letters from the frontsstarting from the analysis of article 11 of the Italian Constitution, from the historical knowledge of the twentieth century and from the use of the epistemes of civic education.
The classes chose letters actually written respectively by a soldier of the First World War, by a soldier of the Vietnam War and by a Ukrainian soldier, involved in the contemporary conflict, in which to insert their own considerations, with empathy and a critical attitude. The result was a rewriting of the identified historical letters, from which emerges both respect for the memory of the past and the desire to build a peaceful coexistence between peoples. For each letter, there is a response whose senders are the students themselves, who, no longer impersonating others, but themselves, spread their cry for peace in unison. Finally, the final epistle, addressing all the soldiers, wishes to be a letter of universal peace, from which democracy and the values of the Constitution emerge, becoming immortal.
