Also present was Marco Monzali, candidate for the city council with the “United left for Prato with Bugetti” list.

Marino begins his speech by talking about the EU itself, bitterly recalling what he saw when he was in Strasbourg, the place where plenary sessions are held once a month (the MEPs participate in the community decision-making process and assert their points of view at the Commission and the Council ed.): “I saw that 70% of our parliamentarians were absent and I also saw how other countries choose competent people, some of whom are specialized in the most diverse sectors, unlike all-rounders who they know how to talk about everything.”

And this is precisely the reason why Ignazio Marino is a candidate, he says: to bring his expertise as a surgeon and make a contribution to try to improve the healthcare system.

The former mayor of the capital does not spare criticism of the other candidates for the European elections: “It is truly a mockery that in our country it is allowed for people like Elly Schlein, Giorgia Meloni, Minister Tajani and Carlo Calenda to run for office declaring that in Europe they will never go there.”

Then he attacks the Democratic Party for the fact that it had said it was against the increase in costs, when then – says the candidate – in Europe it even voted to move the PNRR money intended for the modernization of public healthcare towards new armaments, well this It’s just not acceptable.”

And speaking of weapons, on the subject of war (specifically the one that is taking place between Israel and Hamas), the former mayor says he understands that “the situation is very complex – he begins -, but personally I don’t believe that a conflict can be solve by bringing more and more weapons. There are 35,000 civilians dead in Gaza, terrible, but the thing that struck me most are the 3,500 children who did not lose their lives, but at least one limb did (each of them) – here, asks the former mayor – but how can you think of finding reconciliation, peace and coexistence when what is being created is only hatred and a sense of revenge?”.

Marco Monzali, despite being a candidate for the municipal council, warns about the lack of attention given to the EU: “In all the cities where municipal elections are also held there is always the risk that the European elections end up in the background , however – specifies Monzali – we must not forget the great importance of the electoral appointment for the renewal of the European Parliament, an institution which in our opinion still has too few powers -. In fact, the candidate concludes – we are for an increase in the weight of the EU, for a change in internal regulations too, there is little politics in Europe. That little policy that allows guys like Orban to take positions that are in clear contrast with the values of the charter.”
