“Only love counts.” With these words, few and very clear, begins the post published today on Facebook by the mayor of Bari Antonio Decaro, on the wedding celebrated by him, in the Municipality, between two policewomen. The protagonists of this love story are Porzia and Annarita, who wear the uniform of the local Bari police and who just today got together civilly. The mayor celebrated both their love and the rights of all couples in general with a long post on social media.

De Caro wrote: «Only love counts. In recent years I am honored to have been the mayor of a city that has chosen to always support love in all its forms. And freedom. Something never to be taken for granted. Today I wore the tricolor sash to civilly unite Portia and Annarita, two local police officers who are proud of their uniform as we are proud of them.”

De Caro also criticizes the positions of Italy, which only a few days ago did not sign the declaration on rainbow rights proposed in Europe, placing the country together with Orban’s Hungary and others where rights are not so obvious. The mayor of Bari writes: «In their looks, in the proud eyes of their families and friends there is the best response to those who a few days ago did not sign the declaration for the promotion of European policies in favor of the LGBTQIA+ communities, presented last May 17th on the occasion of the day against homotransphobia. On the one hand there are those who are afraid of freedom and love and on the other there are Portia and Annarita who live their love and from today they are a family also in the eyes of the city of Bari.”
