With a very important event, which took place on 15 and 16 May in Matera, City Green Lighta company active in the public lighting sector and one of the largest Italian Escos for energy efficiency and services for smart citiespresented, with the Municipality of Matera, the new lighting of the Sassi.
The plant, built according to the criteria of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in November 2023 with the Italian Amateur Astronomers Union (UAI) And the Italian Section ofInternational Dark Sky Association (THEFROM) (link) and the most advanced regulations on light pollution, represents a milestone for its environmental sustainability, achieved with a reduction in consumption of approximately 70% and zero dispersion of the luminous flux towards the sky.
On the evening of May 15th, a walk among the Sassi was organized to admire, from different observation points, the visual effect of the new light points that were created by Neri di Longiano, preserving the original plate shape, but in a full cut-off.
On May 16th the actual presentation event was held at the House of Emerging Technologies, with the intervention of the Mayor Domenico Bennardi and Arturo D’Atri of the City Green Light.
Followed by a round table with Pietro Lauretano, UNESCO urban planner, Angelo Raffaele Cotugno, Councilor for Public Works of Matera, Cecilia Putignano, engineer and manager of the intervention for City Green Light, and Mario Di Sora representing the Italian Amateur Astronomers Union and the IDA Italian Section.
Once again the goodness of the solutions proposed by the regulations on light pollution is confirmed, strongly desired by amateur astronomers, and which allow better lighting of our cities with lower costs and greater environmental sustainability, as well explained by Mario Di Sora in his speech for UAI and IDA.
