Naples in mourning, Gaetano Di Vaio has died

The actor and film producer Gaetano Di Vaio has died. He fell from his motorbike last May 16th in Qualiano, in the province of Naples. Since then he had been hospitalized in intensive care at Giugliano hospital.

The actor, according to what was reconstructed by the police who intervened on the scene, was on board his scooter in via Santa Maria a Cubito when he lost control of the vehicle, ending up on the ground. Transported to the emergency room of the San Giuliano hospital in Giugliano in Campania, he was hospitalized in intensive care for six days then passed away. Born in the Piscinola district, on the northern outskirts of the city, Di Vaio was the protagonist of a story of redemption. As a young man he was arrested for drug possession and spent several years in Poggioreale prison. Once outside he became a cultural operator and joined Peppe Lanzetta’s theater company. So he founded the association and film production company “Sons of the Bronx”, now “Bronx Film”. Always attentive to the themes of degradation and redemption of urban suburbs, Di Vaio is among the producers of films such as ‘Napoli Napoli Napoli’ by Abel Ferrara and of the series “Gomorra”, inspired by the novel by Roberto Saviano, in which he also acted as actor.
