Customs and Finance seize over 440kg of Marijuana

A load of marijuana, weighing over 442 kilograms, was intercepted at the port of Civitavecchia by the staff of the local Customs Office and by the financiers of the Provincial Command of Rome, who arrested a Bulgarian man on suspicion of the crime of international trafficking of narcotics.

The consignment, transported on an articulated lorry coming from Barcelona bound for Bulgaria, was hidden among rolls of paper for industrial use and household items, in front of which
“Jackpot”, one of the anti-drug dogs supplied to the Civitavecchia Group, immediately showed his interest, successfully directing the action of the Fiamme Gialle and the
officials of the Civitavecchia Customs Office.

Once the drug reached the drug dealing centers, it would have brought in revenues of almost 4 and a half million euros. The criminal proceedings are in the preliminary investigation phase and, pending the final judgement, the presumption of not guilt applies to the person arrested. This seizure, which is added to the recent one of 340 kilograms of hashish and marijuana, is also the result of the profitable synergy between the Corps and the Customs and Monopolies Agency, most recently strengthened with a new collaboration agreement signed in 2023 between the two institutions.
