situation under control in the Ferrara area – INTERVIEW – Telestense

No critical issues thanks to more limited rainfall and preventive hydraulic maneuvers by reclamation consortia and the Region.

There is great attention for the bad weather that is currently affecting much of Northern Italy, heavily affecting the Modena, Bolognese, Lombardy and Veneto areas. The Ferrara area seems so far substantially spared from the most extreme phenomena such as water bombs, recording rainfall in line with the period: 35mm since the beginning of the month, with an average of 5mm on Monday. Since the early hours of today, the rainiest area has been that of Bondeno, with 22 mm against an average for the district of 7 mm. However, modest rainfall compared to what is happening in the area between Bologna and Modena, where over 175mm fell in a few hours on Monday, the average quantity usually recorded in a three-month period.

“The situation is under control and constantly monitored – states Alessandro Buzzoni, manager of the Territory Area of the Consorzio di Bonifica Pianura di Ferrara – and our system is able to dispose of these quantities of water without particular critical issues. Furthermore, the heavy rain that fell in the western area of our province is, albeit slowly, passing through the Burana – Po di Volano basin. We work in close synergy with both the Agency for Territorial Security and Civil Protection of the Region and colleagues from the Burana Consortium, who manage the Pilastresi plant and who have activated its drainage function. The necessary maneuvers have been introduced to guarantee the hydraulic safety of the Ferrara area, both as regards the natural watercourses and for the smaller network managed by our institution”.

The flow of the rivers is, as expected, growing: Panaro and Reno increased by approximately +1.30 meters in the morning today, while the flood of the Po passed through Boretto in the last hours of Saturday 18th and in Pontelagoscuro in the early hours on Monday 20th. In Boretto, a reference point that anticipates the trend in Pontelagoscuro by just over a day, it began to increase again from 6am this morning (+6 cm in three hours).

A stable situation which at the moment therefore does not give rise to particular concerns, as explained by the president of the Reclamation Consortium, Stefano Calderoni: “We are quite calm regarding the hydrogeological situation of the area, but we still keep our guard up. I remember, in fact, that a part of our Province is on orange alert today and tomorrow, while the remainder is still on yellow alert. Our teams are in the area and, thanks to their constant presence and the remote control system, we monitor the heights and operation of the systems in real time, to intervene in the event of a worsening of the climatic situation”.
