The twentieth century lives again in the writings of the students of the University of the Third Age of Foligno

They range from the memory of the grandparents involved in the First World War and the Resistance to fascism to the narration, often accompanied by period photos, of sad, happy or funny episodes experienced starting from the 1950s. There is all this in the book “The girls of Viale Firenze and other stories”, a work that contains four poems and twenty-one precious stories put in black and white, based on the experiences lived during the twentieth century, by the members and enrolled at the University of the Third Age of Foligno. The volume, published with the contribution of the Cassa di Risparmio di Foligno Foundation, will be presented on Wednesday 22 May, at 4pm, at the Unifol headquarters in via Oberdan. For the occasion, the four poems and the most interesting passages from each story will be read.

In the introduction, the editor of the book and president of Unifol, Roberto Segatori writes: “The stories quite often allude to uncomfortable, harsh, even painful events. But in the exercise of writing, in putting them on paper, an almost new pleasure is revealed. A pleasure that does not derive only from the small opportunity for self-reflection, but which corresponds to the idea of producing something literary. That is, of the participants in the paper adventure experiencing the status of writers. It is also undeniable that throughout the book there is an air of great freedom, almost the awareness of the shared possession of an achieved ‘personal power’, which we did not have when we were young.” In fact, at the end of her piece, Ersilia Negroni notes: “I am a woman who is still curious about life and who has enough energy to fight against injustices, prejudices and gender disparities. Always on the side of women! I don’t deny the past, but I want with all my strength to live in the present. Death doesn’t scare me, but I would like it to take me ‘alive’.”
