The companies Trenitalia SpA, Italo-Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori SpA and Trenord SrL will apply, as per agreements stipulated with the Administration of the Interior, tariff concessions for rail travel in favor of Italian citizens resident in Italy or resident abroad who travel in the place of electoral registration (or nearby places) to exercise the right to vote.
Tickets, with the discount for voters, can be purchased for trips to be made within twenty days close to the voting days. This period starts, for the outward journey, from the tenth day before the first day of voting (this one included) and for the return journey until midnight of the tenth day following the day of the electoral consultation, this one excluded. Therefore, for the consultations on 8 and 9 June, the outward journey can be made from 30 May 2024 and the return journey no later than 19 June 2024; for the run-off round for the municipal elections on 23 and 24 June, the outward journey can be made from 14 June 2024 and the return journey no later than 4 July 2024.
In order to take advantage of the concession, voters must show the following to the control staff on board the train:
– on the outward journey, your electoral card or a substitute declaration certifying that the discounted ticket was purchased to go to the electoral registration location, in order to exercise the right to vote;
– on the return journey, together with a valid identity document, your electoral card bearing the certification of voting;
– voters resident in Italy, if they do not have an electoral card, will be able to produce a substitute declaration.
For voters residing abroad, the issuing of tickets must take place upon presentation, in addition to the electoral card, of the notice postcard or declaration from the Italian consular authorities certifying that the compatriot, holder of the declaration itself, is going to Italy to exercise the right to vote.
Voters must also show, both on the outward and return journey, a suitable identification document.
The tariff concessions for voters cannot be combined with other reductions and/or promotions. With the companies Trenitalia SpA and Trenord SrL, an exception is made for Blue Card holders who still retain the right to free travel for the companion. With the Società Italo-Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori SpA the benefits for people with reduced mobility are protected.
The companies Trenitalia SpA and Italo-Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori SpA will also apply the tariff concessions in favor of citizens of a European Union state residing in an Italian municipality who go there to vote in the municipal elections.
Furthermore:
A) the Trenitalia SpA company provides, for voter travel, the issue of nominative return tickets, with a 60% reduction on regional fares (tariff 39) and regional fares with supra-regional application (tariff 39/AS) and 70% on the basic price for all trains of the national service (High Speed Frecciarossa and Frecciargento, Frecciabianca, Intercity, Intercity night) and for the sleeper service. The reductions are applicable for 2nd class and for the Standard service level. The issue of reduced-price tickets, for voters residing in Italy, will be carried out by Trenitalia ticket offices, self-service (under development) and travel agencies as well as by accessing Trenitalia’s digital channels (Mobile app and Trenitalia.com website). B) Società Italo – Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori SpA will allow voters to purchase train tickets for trips to the location of their electoral registration office or in any case to locations nearby or useful for reaching that location, with a reduction of 60% on the retail price for traveling in the Smart and Comfort environment, with the Flex, Economy, Extratempo and Bordo offers. Reduced price tickets will be issued at the Italo station ticket offices, the “Pronto Italo” contact center, the italotreno.it website as well as the Travel Agencies portal. C) the Trenord SrL company, operating in Lombardy, will apply the 60% reduction on the price of train tickets only to journeys made at the regional rate, in 2nd class. Discounted tickets can be purchased at station ticket offices and on board the train. For further more detailed information, please consult the website www.trenord.it.
DISCOUNTS FOR TRIPS BY SEA
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has given instructions to the Compagnia Italiana di Navigazione SpA, the Grimaldi Euromed SpA, the Società Navigazione Siciliana ScpA and the NLG- Navigazione Libera del Golfo to apply to the voters who go to vote in the municipality of their own registration, the preferential rate which provides for a 60% reduction in passenger freight of the “ordinary rate” only; in the case of voters who are entitled to the rate as residents, the “resident rate” will apply, except in cases where the “voter” rate is more advantageous.
In particular, these travel concessions will be provided respectively on the following maritime lines:
– Compagnia Italiana di Navigazione SpA: Genoa-Porto Torres line
– Grimaldi Euromed SpA: Naples-Cagliari-Palermo line and Civitavecchia-Arbatax-Cagliari line;
– Società Navigazione Siciliana ScpA: connections between Sicily and the smaller Sicilian islands and the Naples-Aeolian Islands-Milazzo line;
– NLG- Navigazione Libera del Golfo Srl: Termoli-Tremiti Islands line.
MOTORWAY CONCESSIONS
The Italian Association of Motorway and Tunnel Concessionaire Companies (AISCAT) has announced that the motorway concessionaires will adhere to the request for exemption from toll payment on the entire national network, with the exception of motorways controlled with an “open” type toll collection system, to Italian voters residing abroad both for the journey to the polling station and for the return journey; he also communicated that companies not registered with AISCAT will continue to guarantee compliance of behavior towards voters residing abroad. The validity of the concession will begin, for the outward journey, from 10.00 pm on the fifth day before the consultation and, for the return journey, from the day of the voting operations until 10.00 pm on the fifth day following the consultation. conclusion of the operations themselves. In order to take advantage of the concession, the voter must show, for the outward journey, the electoral card or the notice postcard sent to him by the Municipality of electoral registration or the certificate issued by the Consulate of the place of residence and, for the journey upon return, the electoral card duly endorsed by the president of the polling station where the vote took place.
CONCESSIONS FOR THE PURCHASE OF AIRLINE TICKETS
The Compagnia Italia Trasporto Aereo SpA (ITA Airways) will apply a discount on the plane ticket for a domestic round trip flight used to go to the polling station to which you belong. The discount, which can also be used for bookings containing multiple passengers, is not added to other discounts already in force and does not apply to codeshare flights and flights in territorial continuity but is applicable to the return ticket fare, excluding taxes and surcharges, according to the following methods:
– €40 discount on return tickets to and from Italy, with fares of an amount greater than or equal to €41 return (direct flights between Cagliari-Rome, Cagliari-Milan and between Milan-Trieste are excluded on which benefits linked to territorial continuity are provided).
The offer is valid exclusively by purchasing online on the website https://www.ita-airways.com. At the time of check-in and/or boarding the passenger must show the electoral card or, if he does not have one, for the outward journey only, he must sign and present a substitute declaration to the airport staff. Upon return, the passenger must show their electoral card duly endorsed by the electoral section bearing the date of the vote. Travel documents will be valid from 7 days before the election date until 7 days following the election itself.
