In the return matches of the round of 16, Mattia Scala’s Roma, thanks to the 2-0 home success over Venezia (a brace from Russo), secured a place in the quarter-finals, where they will find Roberto Benesperi’s Juventus, who won 1-0 in away to Atalanta (Bruno resolves). Home victory, however, for Roberto Bertuzzo’s Milan, who beat Torino 3-1 (Avogadro Di Vigliano, Martini and Zangrillo for the Rossoneri) qualifying for the next round, in which they will meet Thomas Vincenzi’s Hellas Verona, who overcame Fiorentina 4-1 at Viola Park, overturning the 2-0 they conceded in the first leg (Tanzilli, Bisoffi, Leone and Varali scored). Stefano Lo Russo’s Empoli also achieved a place among the best eight in the championship, having only achieved a 1-1 draw at home with Cagliari (Isidori was defeated by the rossoblù Boccia) after the 4-0 success achieved away from home a week ago. The Tuscans, in the quarterfinals, will have to deal with the reigning Italian champions Inter, who drew 2-2 at home with Parma (Matarrese and Nese for the Nerazzurri, the 2010 class Mama and Brambilla for the Gialloblù).
