Reggio Calabria, the Regional Register and Donor Center of the Region at Gom

REGGIO CALABRIA «At the Gom of Reggio Calabria, the Regional Registry and Donor Center of the Calabria Region is based at the Uosd (simple departmental operational unit) Tissue Typing». The Gom reports this on its Facebook page, explaining that with reference to registration in the Marrow Donor Register «young people between the ages of 18 and 35 can register by accessing the Gom Tissue Typing facility, from Monday to Friday from 8.00 to 1.00 pm, without reservation and without request from the attending physician”. Also attached to the post is an article from “Avvenire” which reports the testimony of two marrow donors. Here is one of these stories: «”The donation is a small good thing that I have done in life”, states with emotion Davide Roppo, 31 years old, from Puglia, policeman of the Bari Sud road and father of two children, “even if I volunteer since I was 15. I learned about this type of donation when I was attending student agent school in Trieste: they were looking for donors for a little girl waiting for a marrow transplant but I wasn’t compatible. In 2021, three years after my registration in the donor register, I was contacted and in 2022 I made the donation to the Gom of Reggio Calabria, where I was working at the time. Apart from the initial fear, I never had second thoughts: I identified with the person in need and I told myself that, if it had been me in his place, I would have hoped until the end that someone had done it for me”» .
