«A positive and constructive meeting». The representatives of the environmental associations were satisfied at the end of yesterday afternoon’s meeting in the council room with the municipal administration. Summoned in recent weeks by the mayor, the environmentalists returned to the city hall almost a year after the last time (dated July 2023) and 3 months after the monothematic municipal council of last February 5 which started a new path of collaboration between associations and institutions.

«Finally – said Sandra Parente representing Uniti x l’ambiente – we managed to get the municipal administration to focus on the environmental problems that have afflicted the city for years. We have addressed many issues and listened to the report of the environmental councilor, but we are still skeptical about the solutions that have emerged to address complicated problems.” Among the various obstacles to overcome is the absence of technicians, figures necessary to deal with issues such as environmental monitoring or the renewal of the AIA for the companies in via Trani. «There is a lack – underlined Parente – of the technical figures capable of take stock of the critical issues. Concertation between institutions and citizens is the only real weapon we can deploy.”

For the president of the Bat Clean Air Operation committee Michele Cianci it was «an interesting meeting, we are waiting for the AIA requests from Timac and Buzzi to be able to make our deductions, but I must admit that I saw the mayor taking the side of the citizens. With the administration at your side, battles can be conducted more effectively and in this sense the monothematic municipal council marked a useful starting point: from that moment the majority and the opposition, represented at the meeting by Rosa Cascella and Adelaide Spinazzola, have united for a common objective, that of protecting the health of citizens.” The next steps of the process are imminent “I believe – Cianci commented – that in the next few days Timac’s AIA request will be published on the provincial website and from there we will begin to draw our conclusions”.
