Four officers from the penitentiary police Lo Russo and Cutugno prison in Turin they ended up in hospital after trying to save an inmate that he attempted to hang himself and then attacked them. A gesture that, probably, the man would not have carried out anyway, but he would have implemented to try to obtain a psychiatric examination.
However, the result was that four officers had to seek treatment in the Maria Vittoria emergency room. Three were treated and discharged with a prognosis of one week, one day off for the other.
The umpteenth attack (in Turin it is the twenty-first since the beginning of the year with 28 injured officers) took place yesterday afternoon in Pavilion A where an inmate at the end of a phone call has set fire to a shirt because he wanted to make a further call. Then once the shirt was off, she tied it to the bars of a window in the bathroom cell trying to hang himself. The agents are intervened immediately to save him, but the inmate attacked them with kicks, punches and spit. «By now – declares the general secretary of the Osapp union – Leo Beneduci – the penal institutions are completely out of control, Turin in particular where the agents are totally abandoned to their own devices, so much so that even today the holiday plan has not been prepared. This is demonstrated by the fact that the inmates feel free to do what they want, in a climate of anarchy and absence of rules. The prison police staff is completely left to their own devices and without directives.”
