Naples-Bari: high speed advances in the south

Naples

One of the sections still missing from the Italian high-speed railway concerns the connection Naples-Barithat is, the axis that would unite two southern metropolises that play a fundamental role in two different regions.

This lack is being remedied with the infrastructure work on the network which should be active by 2028. A decisive impulse came from the Meloni government which is accelerating the process of work and the construction of many routes in the Campania and Puglia hinterland.

“The completion of the line – comments Gianni Lepre, economist and advisor to the minister of culture – is expected for 2028, but partial sections will be inaugurated by 2025, with beneficial effects for travellers”.

The well-known economist who, among other things, is president of the networks and production districts commission of Odcec Napoli then continued: “The absolute novelty will be the fact that the line is directed without stopping to Caserta, with a reduction of over two hours of travel times, while it will take three hours to connect the Apulian capital to Rome”.

Lepre then underlined: “There will also be beneficial effects for the local economy, as well as in the more immediate relationships in the Naples Bari Rome triangle. An absolute benefit not only for regular travelers, but also for the tourist exchange between the two regions and the capital.

The modernization of the fast line will also bring greater comfort, and as mentioned the cancellation of annoying connections”.

Lepre then concluded: “A historic turning point for the South, a real desire on the part of the government to fill that North-South gap and the related inequalities”.
