For those who make a living from counterfeiting, they are a small treasure: 2,500 Colmar labels, identical to the original ones but evidently fake under the lens of an expert gaze. And then a large quantity of costume jewelery of dubious regularity, which in direct contact with the skin could have caused allergic reactions. In total, over 60 thousand counterfeit products ended up seized thanks to the investigations carried out by the Fiamme Gialle of the Adriatic capital regarding product safety and protection of Made in Italy, as part of the “Stop fake” action plan.

The first check concerns a business in Pescara where thousands of fake items were found. Unsafe earrings, bracelets, necklaces and rings, without adequate packaging and information on the possible presence of allergenic material such as nickel. Going back up the commercial chain, the financiers tracked down the supplier of the goods, a wholesaler of Chinese origins with a warehouse in Civitanova Marche, reported for commercial fraud as he did not have the documentation relating to the laboratory tests on the heavy metals (nickel, cadmium and lead) present in products sold in the maximum percentages foreseen.

FALSE HOOKS

Subsequently, near the Pescara station, the soldiers decided to check another person: when the man realized that the soldiers were approaching, he ran away after throwing a bag with over 2,500 Colmar designer labels on the ground, which turned out to be counterfeit . «Counterfeiting – states the provincial commander of the Pescara financial police, Colonel Antonio Caputo – is a phenomenon that multiplies illegality. It fuels various sectors of the underground economy, from illegal immigration to illegal work, from tax evasion to money laundering.”

Investigations continue to identify other channels of supply of illegal goods and further people involved. Finally, a series of instructions that can help consumers in their choice: «Avoid buying products that are too cheap; a price that is too low – explains Colonel Caputo – can be inviting, but also an indication of poor quality. It seems like an opportunity and instead you risk buying a product that deteriorates much sooner than the original. For purchases, always contact authorized sellers who offer guarantees on the origin of the goods. Be wary of products offered on the street or on the beach by irregular sellers, at stalls and improvised markets, etc. Always check the labels of the products purchased because the label is their “identity card”: be wary of those with small or unclear writing or without indications of origin and the “CE mark”. The most correct labels are those that guarantee the best knowledge of the product: transparency of the brand, production process, place of production and characteristics.”
