The Decentralized Functional Center of Civil Protection of Veneto issued a notice of hydrogeological and hydraulic criticality, valid from 6pm today to 12am on May 22ndwhich decrees a new warning for the arrival of heavy rain in much of the regional territory. The hydrogeological warning for thunderstorms is, in fact, yellow in all the Veneto basins.
The weather forecast indicates May 21st from today evening to tomorrow disturbed weather with precipitation including showers or thunderstormsmore consistent and frequent in the mountainous, piedmont and high plain areas with even abundant maximum quantities. More intense and widespread phase between the night and late afternoon of Tuesday.

«The forecasts indicate the arrival of a new disturbance that, give the heavy rains of last week, requires particular attention in some areas of Veneto. The forecast bulletins released by the technical structures report a red alert in particular in the lower Verona area, in the Muson area in the province of Padua, in the Vicenza area and the lower Sile. The warning machine has been reactivated at full capacity and we have deployed all the necessary human and technical resources to deal with the effects of the new rains.” This is declared by the President of the Veneto Region Luca Zaia in light of the new criticality warning issued by the regional Civil Protection which decrees the state of red and orange hydrogeological and hydraulic criticality alarm in specific areas, and at the same time yellow alert for thunderstorms throughout the Region.
«We hope that the effects will be limited and that the alarm will be lifted once this further phase of bad weather has passed. However, we ask local institutions and citizens to pay attention to the indications and to monitor, also online on the ARPAV website, the expected weather conditions and effects on the ground” continues the president.

«Since last week the Civil Protection councilor has never stopped working, bringing together the Crisis Unit, and always remaining active with all the regional structures for problems relating to flooded areas and the restoration of damage – comments the President again -. I thank him and all the men and women who, in any role and in any capacity, are working to ensure that the machine is in perfect motion even in the event, which we do not hope for, that critical issues arise again. Our rolling basins are almost all empty. We trust that the prevention system is sufficient to deal with the events.”

Following the yellow and orange alert issued by Arpav and the forecasts for the next 24 hours, the Local police and civil protection of Verona recommend the maximum attention for probable rainfall between late afternoon-evening today and tomorrow until midnight.
“Expected disturbed weather with widespread and intense rainfall. Most critical phase between the night and late afternoon on Tuesday. Particular attention must be paid when driving vehicles, especially two-wheeled vehicles, and near city underpasses. The operations center of the Lungadige Galtarossa local police is following the evolution of the weather situation in real time” reads the note released by Palazzo Barbieri.

- the state of alarm (red) in the Alto Brenta-Bacchiglione-Alpone and Basso Brenta – Bacchiglione basins;
- pre-alarm status (orange) in the Po, Fissero-Tartaro-CanalBianco and Basso Adige basins and in the Lower Piave, Sile and lagoon drainage basins
- state of attention (yellow) in the Piave Pedemontano, Livenza, Lemene and Tagliamento, Adige-Garda and Monti Lessini, Livenza, Lemene and Tagliamento basins

As regards the hydrogeological criticality, it was decreed:
- the state of alarm (red) in the Alto Brenta-Bacchiglione-Alpone and Basso Brenta – Bacchiglione basins;
- pre-alarm state (orange) in all the rest of the regional basins except in the Livenza, Lemene and Tagliamento basins where the state of attention (yellow) is decreed.
Based on the expected rainfall and the state of saturation of the soil, it is possible the triggering of landslides and rapid flows in mountain areas, foothills, hilly areas of the alert areaswith the activation of even large-scale phenomena; probable backflow of rainwater disposal systems with flooding of underground rooms and/or underpasses. Widespread increases in the levels of the secondary hydrographic network.
The scenario will be characterized by intense, widespread and rapidly evolving phenomena. In the areas under hydraulic alert, significant increase in the levels of the main watercourses belonging to the foothill area, with probable exceeding of the second/third hydrometric threshold.

In the areas of Lower Brenta – Bacchiglione and Lower Piave, Sile and Basin draining into the lagoon, we highlight the critical conditions already in place which affect the secondary hydrographic and reclamation network, the state of imbibition of the embankments particularly stressed by last week’s event, with extremely vulnerable points along the Muson and the Fratta-Frassine-Gorzone system, and the problems that still affect some of the main water bodies belonging to the Drainage Basin and along the Sile.
In the Po, Fissero-Tartaro-Canal Bianco and Basso Adige areas the hydraulic criticality is orange it relates to the Po river auction and is valid until the early afternoon of 21.05, yellow in the following period.
