CROTONE – He stopped in the city, Monday 20 Mayin front of the entrance toSan Giovanni di Dio hospitalthe regional mobilization of CGIL to ask for the relaunch of Calabrian healthcare and the protection of citizens’ right to health. A protest that followed those already promoted by the union in Lamezia Terme and Vibo Valentia in recent days, and which preceded the one in Catanzaro scheduled for May 21st. On the management of healthcare in Calabria “we need to reverse course because the commissionership has only caused disasters” underlined the general secretary of the CGIL Vast Area Catanzaro – Crotone – Vibo Valentia, Enzo Scalesepresent at the event.
The union is very clear about the “necessary and urgent measures” to be implemented and put them down in black and white in a ten-point document, addressed to the government and the Region. First of all, “the central government must take on the debt produced by commissioner management, thus freeing up the resources necessary to strengthen regional health services”. The CGIL therefore urges the strengthening public healthwhich “government policies and cuts are compromising”, putting a brake on “outsourcing and privatization processes, including the use of ‘coin’ professionals”.

Among the priorities highlighted, also the relaunch and readjustment of the hospital network, the strengthening of public clinics and local medicine, investments in staff with an extraordinary multi-year hiring plan, the reduction of unacceptable waiting times for visits and diagnostic tests. In the document, it is also requested to recognize the importance of prevention and health promotion, to support non-self-sufficient people and to promote policies for the full inclusion of people with disabilities.
Necessary interventions, Scalese further explains, because in the face of a regional health system that is not able to respond to the needs of citizens and which “has only one bed place for every thousand inhabitants”, we are witnessing “not only the intensification ofhealthcare emigration towards other regions, but also to the renunciation of treatment by many of our fellow countrymen”.
Many of the issues raised by the trade unionist have already been brought to the table of the President of the Region and Commissioner for Health, Roberto Occhiuto, but “unfortunately they have remained a dead letter”. For this reason, on healthcare, the CGIL will not lower its guard: “Through these sit-ins and demonstrations, we are building a path with the communities and citizens, to then arrive at a regional mobilization and tell Commissioner Occhiuto that it is time to move on to the facts, perhaps starting from the convocation of the territorial tables, announced but never convened, as he had undertaken to do”.

On the occasion of the demonstration, it was also possible to join the petition for the presentation of the four referendum questions promoted by the CGIL on labor issues, aimed at canceling the provisions on dismissals of the Jobs Acts, the maximum compensation limit in the event of unjustified dismissal in small companies, the liberalization of fixed-term contracts and the which excludes the joint and several liability of client companies in contracts and subcontracts, in the event of injury or professional illness of the worker.
