The third edition of the has closed at the Bertoni Institute Certamen Classicum Bertonianuma translation competition from classical languages into Italian, designed as an opportunity to keep the quality of humanistic studies high and to stimulate healthy competition between the best students in the region and nearby Veneto.
THE fifty participants they measured themselves on a passage of Greek taken fromEpistle to Menoeceus by the writer and philosopher Epicuruswhich addresses the theme of the pursuit of happiness.
«A very timely reflection – clarified the coordinator of the initiative, Gabriele Ragogna – if we consider that the context in which the Greek author lived (a period of crisis, confusion and transformation) resembles ours so much, agitated by winds of war and many uncertainties about the future”.
The choice of the passage to be translated combined, as in past editions of the competition, a linguistic-grammatical aspect (with a text that required care and attention especially in the lexical and stylistic rendering) with an ethical and values aspect, an element to which the classical high school Bertoni, promoter and organizer of the event, is particularly keen.
This year the first and second prizes went to two students from Leopardi – Majorana classical high school in PordenoneSamuele Battiston and Rachele Casagrande respectively, while two students from the school shared third and fourth place Stellini of UdineFilippo Mauro and Tommaso Venier.
Finally, Bertonian Gabriele Moretti and two students from Pordenone, Davide Battiston and Nicole Modolo, received honorable mentions for their work.
The city councilor Federico Pirone spoke at the award ceremony. —
