Panthers Parma redemption, 49-26 against Lazio Marines

The Parma Panthers are back to winning at home, after the two painful defeats against the Frogs Legnano and the Calanda Broncos. The Lazio Marines paid the price, downsized after two victories in a row in the IFL and thanks to the addition of a new import, Jocques Crevell Crawford, who however did not have the hoped-for impact in this match.

Good balance in the first quarter, with the home team scoring first thanks to a run by Michael Alfieri, preferred by coach Michitti to Ryan Minniti for this match. Francesco Diaferia converts a kick: 7-0. The Lazio team closed the gap with a field goal by Jacopo Impallomeni at the beginning of the second quarter, before conceding the second TD, a 68-yard run by Parma’s QB, Robbie Patterson. Diaferia transforms: 14-3.

There were many difficulties and errors, especially on the defensive front for the Marines, with the attack never managing to be truly dangerous in this part of the match. Another field goal from Impallomeni brings the Marines 8 points away, but once again the hope of being able to keep the game open crashes into Parma’s offensive plans, scoring twice in a row before half time, with a reception by Luca Aldrighetti on a pass from Patterson and with another personal run by the American QB, all seasoned with conversions by Diaferia: 35-7.

The Marines’ game seems to start in the third quarter when, after having collected yet another TD (a throw from Patterson to Simone Alinovi) Austin Albericci finally manages to find the right openings and first to score personally with a short run after a long drive, also complicated by several fouls, and then to launch a TD pass to Adalberto Rinaldi, with a two-point conversion that replicates the touchdown action: 35-20. The last quarter of the game begins, the Panthers begin to stretch again with Matteo Ghelfi’s reception and Diaferia’s transformation, then the Marines score again with a 25-yard run by Albericci and the Emilians close the back and forth with a another TD pass from Patterson, this time to Dario Zatti.

Diaferia scores again between the posts and the result will no longer change: 49 to 26 and the Panthers locking down fourth place, awaiting the match against the Guelfi Firenze next week which, if it doesn’t say much in terms of ranking, will certainly remind everyone the Italian Bowl played in Toledo last season.
