Even in Bitonto, as in all parts of the world, in school
primary “Nicola Fornelli” it was decided to reflect on the difficulties
in which our Planet lives, on the occasion of the Day of
Earth, last April 22nd.
The little second year students, guided by religion teachers, yes
they are inspired by the “Canticle of the Creatures” of Saint Francis
of Assisi. They therefore set up an exhibition of works created
with recycled materials and, with the help of the families, they gave it away
free to creativity.
The school director, Anita Amoia, introduced the theme and
welcomed the guests at this round table: The deputy mayor
Marianna Legista, Don Gaetano Coviello, rector and parish priest of
Basilica Santi Medici, the deputy director of the school office
of the archdiocese of Bari – Bitonto, prof. Luigi Di Nardi. Their interventions
were listened to attentively by the second graders and by
a representation of all classes.
The readings of some fifth graders and their drawings then
illustrated the suffering the Earth is experiencing today.
The most exciting moment was when more than 100 children
they sang “Laudato sii” all together: a hymn to the hope that
Saint Francis gave us.
The hope we give to citizens, aware that the
change will happen starting from each of us.
